Do you use the pop up thermometer on a turkey?

I read an article today that says they aren't that great. For one thing they pierce the turkey letting juices out. I didn't think they were that bad. I have always used them, and without any real problems. Says to use a probe thermometer I don't even know what that looks like... have you used one of those before? Guess I better prepare for next year.

I usually use my meat thermometer. I have the pop up ones, but i haven't tried them because they are not what I am used to.

I do use the one that comes with the turkey but must admit that I really do not pay attention too much to it. As I usually know when the turkey is ready and by then I see the pop thing already popped. Sounds to me like the probe thermometer would pierce the turkey skin and not be as good as the pop up one. But then I have never seen one either so not so sure.
