What are the “lights” in your life?

I thought I would start a discussion about what are the "lights" in your life. Life can be difficult and drag you down. Because of this, I had started a new, positive habit. I've been doing this habit since late 2005. I cultivate positive thoughts and emotions in my life. I take time every day to list people, events or things that I am grateful for. What are you thankful for?

I like your list. Let's see, my list for today would be: 1. God. 2. Getting to hang out with my brother and father at the movies. 3. My sister-in-laws' awesome home-made pumpkin bread. 4. The beautiful smile on my nieces' face. 5. My enjoyment of the written word. I love to read and write it. Our lists could be made from huge items such as religion, world peace, etc. It can also just be a listing of the small pleasures in life. :)

I'm glad you like my list. Today I would add the fact that my daughter has a loving mother-in-law. It's good to remember the small pleasures of life. For that I would add my table top garden in my living room (I live in an apartment).

I am glad that you can still see that God has a plan for you. Sometimes, when we are ill, we can feel alone and forgotten by all. That is not so. Every person has a story to tell, something we can learn from. I am glad that God continues to give you opportunities to tell your story. Feel better soon, bingskee.

My children, my mother and my sister plus my dogs are the lights in my life. I am grateful that I have a comfortable and happy time in my life. I love to travel to different countries. So far in my lifetime I have visited more than fifty different countries in the world. I like to read books and listen to music. I am keen on walking at the coastline and in the countryside. It is wise for you to have happy thoughts and be grateful for the things that you have.

My husband, my children, my grandchildren and my dogs are the lights of my life. They all give me joy and they're all capable of cheering me up if I'm feeling down. My big dog is particularly good at that because she is fairly young...around two years old...so she is very playful.

I love dogs! My family has always had them. I didn't add them to the list because I consider them family. :D This is my top 10 for now: 1. My family. They help keep me going. My niece especially keeps me going. Nothing like having a baby around to liven things up! 2. My friends. They support and encourage me. 3. Re-connecting with old friends. Thank God for the internet! 4. Laughter. It is one of God's most precious gifts to us. It's amazing how the human body works. When you laugh, it triggers endorphins and makes you happier. Actually, it decreases stress-related hormones, but why get into all that? So, you think you are too angry or tired to laugh? Try it. Force yourself to read or see something funny. Sure, the laugh might come out sounding forced or rusty, even maniacal at times, but it is helping you to feel better. 5. I have a home to live in; a shelter. Many have less. 6. I am capable of working. It allows me to be self-sufficient. 7. Random Acts of Kindness. What a pleasant surprise! :) 8. Optimism. Yes, I can sometimes make people sick by how I am able to constantly see silver linings. It helps, though. I love the fact that for me, the darkness just highlights those silver linings. The contrast makes that which is beautiful shine that much brighter! 9. Seeing people display positive actions and help each other. 10. Dreams. Without those, we might as well not be alive.

My best friend comes to mind first. She truly is one of the brighest lights in my life. I can talk to her about anything and everything. I am so thankful to have her around.

If I'd the time to this I think this could go both ways for me and my Manic Depression. When I have sat there and thought about the things I'm thankful for in my life, I sometimes see the things I've lost and then it can go the other way. That was when I was on my own. Now I see my Daughter, Partner and Step son every morning, there's a roof over my head, food in our belly's a love to fill our house. If you've to think about what your thankful for there must be something a miss. What I'm thankful for is around me everyday for me to see and enjoy.

That is exactly what I'm talking about. It's the evolution from where you were to where you are now: being able to encounter the beauty of each day despite there being other people or events trying to bring you down. Well done! :)

My familiers including my parents, my husband and my baby, who are the lights in my life. When I was depressed, they encouraged me to stand up and face life. The most important that we should have confidence, positive thoughts, which will be very helpful for our lives. Happy day!

Hello friend. I got few things i'm thankful for. First of all is my family, because they love me really much and support me when i need it. I love them also and i thank God that i have them, because without them i'll be nothing. I'm thankful that i found a man, who understand me and who loves me really much. He is ready to do everything for me, because of that love and i'm happy that i have him. I'm thankful for my true friends, who i can chat with in internet, even if i don't see them often. Now i understood who are my real friends, when i'm really far from them. I'm thankful for the people, who help us last months, because we are in really bad situation, thank God that we still have friends, who are always ready to do something for us.

Apart from God being my number one source of light of my life, I have my parents, siblings, husband, kids and friends. They are the lights of my life, they are the one providing me strength and happiness. Life is not always smooth sailing, there are bumps and humps along the way, but having them with me in my life it makes the journey more meaningful and pleasant.
