I feel like I've lost a best friend...

So, I went to see the first part of the final Harry Potter film today. I am definitely looking forward to seeing the final part.. but in a way it's very sad. That will mean it's actually over.. there will never be another new Harry Potter film (perhaps it could be remade, but it will never be new!).
I've read all the Harry Potter books too, and was definitely sad when I finished the last book.. it felt like I'd lost a best friend as there will never be a new Harry Potter book to read.
I felt the same way when I finished the last Twilight book, even though I still have the last movie to look forward to (and I've heard they're making that final movie a 2 parter as well).
When I was a kid I read all the Narnia books.. though there were no Narnia movies back then. Again, when I read the final book I felt like I'd lost a friend because there were no new adventures to look forward to.
How do you feel when a series of books or movies come to an end? Do you also feel like you're losing a friend?

Heck yes I feel that way. It's been around for over a decade now books and movies. I saw the 1st part on Sunday. And I can hardly wait for the second. But I can..you know what I mean. We will always have the videos to visit them again and again!

Yes but revisiting is never the same. I'd prefer the story to continue, though I know it can't.

Yes, I can pretty much relate to what you're feeling. I've also read all of the HP books, and felt both sad and happy at the end. (Happy because I liked the ending). I'm looking forward to HP 7 Part 2. As to Twilight, I haven't read Breaking Dawn yet (well, in full because I've read some chapters), but I think I'll wait for the movies first. Sometimes, I wish, the writers had done it like the Nancy Drew mystery series such that I was the one that outgrew Nancy.

I can relate with this. Even though I am not a Twilight or a Harry Potter fan and in which I do not watch the Movies, read the books, etc. I know there have been other books in Series, etc. when they end you feel at a loss. Same when you have a favorite TV series they decide not to bring back for some reason as well. But I am Glad to see them doing the Narnia books into movies now, and will see the newest one when it comes out on DVD.

So sad! A friend of mine when to see the Harry Potter movie and said he felt cheated - because it was 'to be continued'. I had forgotten about that, so I don't think I'm going to see it yet. I haven't read all the books so I still have that to do before I worry about catching up with all the movies.
I remember feeling that way about ER. The end of it was almost anticlimatic...the beginning is the end is the beginning sort of thing. I don't think I felt that way about Twilight - although I hope that the book she was supposed to write from Edward's point of view gets printed.
I am reading the new additions to The Vampire Diaries series as L.J. writes them... and of course I am watching the show. I hope it gets picked up for multiple multiple seasons because I cannot imagine how I'd feel if it were over. I think I would cry a river lol. I love love love Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder!! Sorry to take over your thread this way but you asked lol.

Never seen any vampire diaries.. to me it's all a rip off of Twilight. Perhaps it's not, but Twilight was popular first, then all of a sudden I'm hearing about all these other vampire things.. to me that's cheesy. LOL

most definately. i feel that way every time im done with a new book i really loved and also with shows i love that are over.
i also have loved Harry potter. but not so much the twilight series. its just so over done the vampire thing. like nothings new any more. i still love the old Interview with a vampire series. Anne Rice. but i even got tired of the later ones of those. she just got to outragious.
the first 5 books were great. not so much after that tho. @abj163 (1036)

I never did get into the Harry Potter series, but I did watch Frasier since its debut in 1993. I felt like I lost my best friend when the last episode of the show finally ended. Now I am collecting the seasons. I have the first five, and I think my husband is going to give me #6 for Christmas.

i know what you mean. i felt exactly that way when charmed ended. it was like closing a part of yourself, or losing a part of your family. it's hard to explain but i think you see my point. it was like i know i could see the episodes again (and i still do) but i know that that would be just it. there would be no new storyline, no more season openers to look forward to. some fans came up with their own tv shows online, but i never watched them because i know that it would never be the same.

I used to like Charmed too.. but I cannot watch the reruns. Parts of it were just so.. overdone! Like the whole Cole and Phoebe thing. I thought Cole was awesome as a demon.. like the demon who wasn't trying to kill them. Then he was human and sort of pathetic.. then he was the source of all evil and that sucked.. then he came back and was all pathetic again. I mean come on.. real men aren't that pathetic over a girl, even if she does look like Pheobe.. I'm so over it! The whole crud with Leo never being able to be around got old real quick too. And then at the end when they brought that new girl in and her sister.. ugh! If I ever have to see another one of those episodes I'm going to scream! It just seemed like there was always something irritating going on.. like when Paige first learns she's a witch and isn't really helping the sisters and doesn't want to be part of it, then goes and blabs the secret to her friend there.. that was just irritating.. like get with the program, you're a witch and have to vanquish evil.. just do it!
But I do have a few favorites I wouldn't mind seeing again.. like the one where Piper and Leo switch powers, the one where Piper turns into a Fury and Cole hits her with an energy ball.. there's a few others too but those are the ones that come to mind.

haha. yeah, the first seasons were the best. i liked it better when cole was a demon too. i think the new girl was brought in to increase ratings but it didn't really work out, i guess. i didn't like that story line either, the story revolved more on her and her sister than the actual charmed sisters.
i like prue's seasons better. too bad shannen doherty quit the show. it was better when constance burge was on board too. but i still like charmed anyway :)

I know exactly how you feel because I feel the same way - very sad when a series ends. I am never without a book on hand but it is even better if there is a series. I must go online because there is series of books written by Elizabeth Goudge and I am missing some of them. would love to have the whole series. They are detective books with a twist. I hope that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

I like detective novels. Right now I'm looking forward to the new Monk book in that series. It's based on the TV show about a police detective in San Fransisco who is obsessive compulsive and afraid of everything like germs and milk, but he's got this unbelieveable eye for tiny details that normal people over look. I love those books.

No really... no. I feel maybe a little disappointed that it's over... but not overtly so. I'm usually happy that all my characters got their happy ending that they so strived for (or if they didn't then I'm just plain disappointed in the series. lol I prefer my endings to be mostly happy.) and that I had the opportunity to enjoy such a good book series. I'm not a Harry Potter fan so I didn't really have any strong feelings about the series when I reached the end of that... I loved the ending of Twilight and I wasn't sad or disappointed that it was over. Narnia I was kinda disappointed when I reached the last book, but I bounced back pretty quick.
Here's the thing... there are SO many great and wonderful books out there just waiting to be read! Sure it's sad to reach the end of one, but you can always so find a new series to begin.

Starting a new book is not the same as you want to read more about your favorite characters and their adventures.

Just because I'm sad that it ended doesn't mean I haven't picked up other books and found new favorites.. but still there's a sense of loss there. I really don't think I'd mind if a favorite character just kept going and going. I mean look at like Nancy Drew who was loved by millions of teenage girls back in the 70's... there are dozens of Nancy Drew stories.. that series really never did have to end. If they wanted to they could create brand new Nancy Drew stories today and people would love them.

All good stories have to come to an end though. If the story just kept going... I don't think it would stay good. Would you really want your favorite characters to constantly be in a state of adventure, peril, danger, drama, and all the things that make fiction good? I know at one point, I want the story to end. I want there to be a happy or mostly wrapped up ending. Even if I love the characters, I doubt I could love a series that just went on forever.
I'm constantly reading, so I'm always discovering more character I love and more great stories. I have my favorites, but there's so many books out there just waiting to be loved! There's no reason to pine after the ending of a series that deserved a good ending.

Harry Potter has been and will continue to be a favorite of mine and my family. I will miss the new excitement, but the books and the reruns of the movies will be of some comfort to Harry Potter's faithful fans, and who knows we maybe surprised with new writing from the author. We can only hope.
I haven't read all the Narnia or Harry Potter books, so I still have some excitement to look forward to, when I find the time to enjoy all of them.

Yes, i have the same feeling when i have just first finished the whole installation of the Harry Potter book series. Same thing also happened to me when i have finished reading the 4 books of the twilight saga series including the second short life of bree tanner and midnight sun. I really do understand what you are going through for i also experienced those. It is either hard or painful for you to accept the reality that the story has just ended.
My advice for you is that let time heal whatever emotional damages that it has cost you for like me, you would soon forget the feeling of losing a beloved friend but one things for sure. What you have read will always be remembered and treasured in your heart.

Hi my Friend! I'd also understand and feel that bad feeling some past year ago. And this is the scenario, I watch the final episode of "CODE GEASS" R2 and i watch the it in my home. Then after I watch the final episode and also see of what happen to lelouch after he take the blade of sword of his friend. I took this to my self "After this episode what's next?, Is there new lelouch like will shown?" and after took myself, I'll go to in my terrace and thinking. And feeling that I loast something to me and that is Happiness. Happiness of being watching and satisfy.
That's my past experience my friend.
