Yeah, the ad is pretty messed up. It said: Over 1,000 Rescued Rats Up For Adoption My question is who would want to adopt a rat? Apparently they got all those rats from a house on an episode of the show called Hoarders. I guess snake owners would want them.

hi elmiko yuck and ugh I fail to see why anyone in their right mind would want to adopt a rat. Don't they know those critters carry all sorts of hideous diseases. Yes snake owners. would use them and some people I have heard have made pets out of rats. but owning a rat would not be for me as it gives me the heebie heebies just thinking about it. brrrr.and ugh.A thousand of the critters good lord what a picture.

yes chipesterkhan, they were inbreds. all those rats started out from one pregnant rat by what the article said.

There are some people who would actually like to adopt rats besides snake owners. I have some friends who have rats as pets. I don't see the appeal in owning a rat, but they seem to think that it is very fun. To each their own I suppose.

a headline like this would only be found online. i say they were probably just trying to get the attention of snake owners anyway.

any disease those poor creatures have is through neglect, not through being a rat. domestic rats are very safe. they are very clean unless they are neglected. bear in mind we are taking an animal and making them live in an enclosed space. unless we remove their droppings and urine, in time the enclosed space will become unhygienic. rats are naturally inclined to use the same area as a toilet. so it's no effort to scoop out that one area and replace the flooring material we use (I use wooden cat litter pellets, as it's better for their breathing than sawdust) rats clean themselves fastidiously. I rather dislike cats, but had there been a load of neglected cats kept in a house, I'd not have the nastiness towards them you are expressing to these rats. and domestic cats are more a health risk than domestic rats. due to inbreeding, some of these animals may need to be put down, if they won't have a good quality of life, but to put them down when they can go on to have a good life just because they are a rat would be horrible. they are gentle, affectionate, intelligent and fun pets. unless the owner is lazy and neglects them, they are exceptionally clean pets. when these rats are well cared for, there is no more risk of disease than there would be from any other domestic animal. in fact considerable less of a health risk than a cat. (I don't hate them, I just don't entirely "get" them) pet cats are known to carry some diseases that can spread to owners from their droppings. and many cats get on kitchen worktops, where you prepare food. my rats are very clean. as are any well cared for rats. I'd lick a rat. and have done, because it's funny watching them grooming themselves afterwards. I think it's very sad that just because the animals that someone has neglected are animals you don't see the many charms of, you think they should die.

not really when the amount of diseases are factored into the equation.

Hi elmiko! I would say that this is a kind of strange story for sure? Who would purposely save rats? I am an animal fanatic and surely don't want to see any animals hurt or suffering, but rats are dirty and carry all sorts of deadly diseases for humans! You are right about snake owners though!

How gross is that. Rats and mice are the few animals that I'm so afraid of. They carry so much diseases and are so ugly. I just can't believe anyone would want a rat as a pet. As for snake owners wanting them, I guess so but even snakes are disgusting to me. LOL LOL LOL
