Only 55% of Americans know that the sun is a star...
I saw this in http://www.nicefacts.com/...
I won't say its not true for I'm not an American, but for those who are, what is your take on this subject? Do you believe it to be true or not?

it is true. have you not had this discussed in your science class? the sun is a star which is the nearest to the earth! and it is true and not just hoax. it is like a medium star, its status as of the moment.

I know, but the point here is if it's true that 50% of Americans doesn't know this basic fact...

That would be very surprising if this is true but how accurate can surveys like this be?

Well. This may be true, if we consider the entire population. Some may be children, some may be illiterate etc. (Even in India, there are lot of people who haven't got even primary education.)
These things, (I mean, things like "Sun is a Star"), are taught in schools. We can't expect everyone to be educated and aware of it. Even who studied in their schools, might have forgotten this simple thing. Outside school, we don't come across such facts in our life.

Yes, you have a point there...and well, knowing the sun is a star is not really that important in life...those who doesn't know this might be knowledgeable than us in other areas like, agriculture, fishery, etc...

Really..that's sad. But if you do surveys on other countries (like mine) I think the percentage would definitely decrease.
I can't believe how people miss out on basic facts like these- the little things. Even I knew about this when I was in elementary, wasn't really taught in school , just read about it somewhere..
