Some thoughts on prayer.

Do you believe in prayer? How do you think prayer works? My thoughts are that prayer, while it may help us, does not change God. A thousand people praying for a sick child can release positive energy and increase our faith and that belief helps the child to recover. It doesn't mean that there is a God in the form of an old man in the sky, who intervenes on behalf of the child because a thousand people ask him to. I could never believe in that kind of God, yet I believe in prayer because it helps us, not because it causes some man made God to change his mind. God is not a material being like us and it's the spiritual man that was made in the image of God. What are your thoughts on prayer?

I agree that prayer changes us but also can and does change circumstances (jesus said to his spirit led followers "ask anything in my name and I will do it"). I think God is very caring (and has no need to change, indeed it is said he is not like the shifting shadows of a day but is the same always.. and "God is love" 1 jn 4;8, all the love, that's him! the love we feel for our loved ones, etc, etc.) I believe he delights in having a relationship with us, and talking to him, prayer is a big part of it. And I think he is a loving father to all. Great topic!

hi Pose, I agree that God is all things, and think he is Life itself, the life force and spark and also believe he is an individual and we are made in his image, as individuals. Ultimately individuals but all one (also).

Hi flowerchilde, Thank you for your response. We agree on many things but I feel that we disagree in the way we see God. To me God is not a separate being but is all that is, and that includes all life. Does prayer change circumstances or does it change the way we look at things? I don't think it really matter. The important thing is that we have all seen the results of prayer. Blessings.

Thoughts are things! Enough people thinking the same thoughts can change the world. When a multitude of people care enough about a sick friend, their well wishing (positive thoughts) can cure the sickness. Call this "praying" if you wish, but no matter what it is, it works. Positive thinking may be the difference between sickness and health in many individuals. For instance a positive thinker does not need to smoke a pack a day to placate himself.

I am a firm believer in prayer. it has gotten me through a lot of trying times in my life. Prayers may not always be answered in the ways that we want but they are heard.

Hi pose: I'm on the opposite. I think that God hear us when we pray. He takes the final decition but he likes to listen to us and that we talk to him. At the end of the day God always do what is the best for us. Maybe we don't understand why some things happend to our lives but there's always a meaning. I beleive that praying is a good wat to establish a communication with God. ALVARO

I've gone through lot a of stumbling blocks in my life, i've been through a lot of rough roads and yet i survive it is because my God is bigger than all of my troubles. Prayer is a very strong weapon, we must keep our faith. God is always there, no matter how difficult and how hard life maybe.
