Are You Still Reading the Bible??

Dear friends, some of us decided to start reading the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. I started in July and have a goal to read it through until end of December. I had to modify the reading to listening instead to save my eyes, but it works really well. I have listened to all the "New Testament" and have still some books left in the "Old Testament" Right now I am listening to the book of Job. I look forward to start again from the beginning of January and have more time to meditate and do research. Would you like to join me in January and read the whole Bible next year? We can always tell each other what we have learned and ask questions and do research. Are you with me??

Hi, astreadido, You might be able to do it and if you want to listen, you can always do that too. You can test if it is easier - if you scroll up, you can see where I downloaded the Bible books. It is not necessary to read it all in order. You can start with Matthew or some other book, and just make a note what you have read.. Wish you happy reading..

I've read the Bible several times from Genesis to Revelation. I would like to read it again next year as well. Audio Bible for amplified available? *smile* I always find something new when I read the word, I'd like to set a schedule but I would have to read so much to finish it in a year, I'll start reading it again from Genesis to Revelation and meditate on the word but I can't guarantee I'll be done in a year!

Hi, shattered It sounds great, you have already read the Bible several times! Yes, I downloaded from jw.org in Finnish! That is my first language There are many other languages available, so let me know if you found your own language. If you want to listen to another translation, you might find it by doing a search. Biblegateway.com also has many different translations in several languages if you wish to compare, but they are in written form.

Thanks for the information. I will look for an English version of the amplified I can download. But I think I would still prefer reading the text. But I'll never know until I try it right? *smile*

Yes, Hatley, you are right. We all need some inspiration If you go to jw.org, you might, except from the Bible, find more inspiration - books, magazines and biblical dramas etc you can listen to.. It makes you feel much happier when you read or listen to something encouraging. Biblegateway.com has many different translations to choose from if you want to compare.. Wish you many great days!

I started last November, I read in spurts and I am just about through Proverbs, reading it cover to cover, old testament then new, I tried switching it up, it just doesn't seem to work for me. I am going to stick to it, until I have read every single passage though, then I am going to go back, and do it again, with a notebook at my side. Sufficeth me to say, I am with you!!

Hi, CJ That sounds great. And you probably know that you can download the Bible and a lot of other material on jw.org.. good to listen to.. The notebook is a good idea, and a friend of ours suggested to have a pencil and mark some bible verses you specially want to remember. Looking forward to hear what you have found! Have a great day!!

Hi, johnpillai What is your mother language? You can find many different languages in biblegateway.com, and jw.org if you want to listen. New World Translation is in written form here: http://www.watchtower.org/ The Bible is the most spread book in the world, so it doesn´t matter what language we understand, there probably is a Bible in our own language.. (My mother tongue is Finnish ) I wish you many happy reading days!

Hi, Shaun Nice to see you - and yes, if you read one chapter a day, you will read the whole Bible through in about three years. I like the Psalms too very much, and the Proverbs and all the rest.. Prayer is important too, as we need wisdom from God to understand His word. He can always send someone to us to help us and teach us more if we ask Him to do that.. Have a great day..

Hi, cher Nice to meet you.. We can learn a lot from the old testament as it teaches us how God treated His servants and others in the past. "These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the culmination of the ages has come." Have a great day..

It didnt take me to long to read the bible when I set to doing it. When my daughter was about 2 I decided I wanted to read the whole bible. I started at Genesis and went through the whole thing. There were many things that I found confusing and so I was given a life application bible that helped explain things a little bit better.

Hi, shaggin It is great that you have read the whole Bible. I agree that some parts can be difficult to understand. If you go to the jw.org site, you will find some literature there, except from the Bible of course, and it may help to answer some questions that you may have. You will find it here: http://www.jw.org/index.html?option=QrYQZRQVNlBBX When you are there, you can choose what book or brochure you want to download. You will find the link to the Bible on the left side. Wish you happy reading and/or listening..

Yes, I'm going to do this finally! I was watching the 1925 version of Ben Hur last night and thought about how many wonderful stories are in the Bible--the movie depicted a couple of events in the life of Jesus and his effect on the people around him. I have a book called "A Daily Joy" that gives you a reading each day and when it is done you've read the Bible. I'm going to do that. I'm getting myself a large print Bible for a Christmas present as my eyes can't see so well anymore. Thank you for bringing this up and for the encouragement!

Hi, dragon.. It is great that you are going to read the Bible. A large print version is good, I have one too. We can always encourage each other to continue reading.. The book of Job that I am listening to right now, has a lot to give. It explains why God permits that His servants suffer for a while, and the strong belief Job had in resurrection. Wish you a great time

It's encouraging to see so many Bible readers. This morning I read 1 Corinthians 13-14. So bar any unusual happenings I should be able to finish Revelation by Dec 31. And it is my hope to do the same next year. So I'm definitely in. Happy Bible reading everyone!

Hi, 1hopefulman Good to see you. Thank you for being the one who encouraged me to start reading through the Bible faster than I used to before. It has been a great joy to listen to the good readers, and next year I will use a notebook and pencil to help me remember some important scriptures! Looks like we will be many who start reading next year, and it isn´t too late to join some time next year for the new myLot users.. Yes, happy Bible reading to you too..

You are right, he is an excellent example for us in humility and many other things. I have been listening to the Psalms and Proverbs, and they are absolutely wonderful. I have to listen to them several times and learn where to find some important verses. I used one verse in the Proverbs in a response in Bukisa not long ago.

Thank you for BR award! Today I was reading Philippians chap 2 and was amazed at the humility shown by Jesus. He did not even think at seizing equality with his Father. He had no over-inflated feeling of importance. May we all copy his mental attitude!

Hi, bingskee Yes, sometimes it can be a challenge as there is so much that tries to take away our attention from the most important, to learn to know our Creator. I am sure He appreciates when we make an effort to find time to learn and meditate and do research to learn His will. And we can always pray for guidance so that we get His help to understand. He will send us someone to teach us if we ask Him to do so. Wish you a great day and happy reading..

I don't read everyday, but I do enjoy getting into a study mode with the use of my Strong's Concordance. Studying the bible is a wonderful experience and meditating on that which was studied allow God's Spirit to penetrate your soul leaving you with unimaginable joy.

When was the last time i have read the bible? I hardly remember, what I can recall is that it was a long time ago. When was a kid I used to attend a bible study reading during my free time. I enjoy sharing stories most of the time. I must admit, I never attempt to open a bible since then.

Hi, kaye welcome to myLot - I hope you like this place.. It looks like many are interested in the Bible and reading it, so it may encourage you to do the same! You may start to read from the "New Testament" and then read the Psalms and Proverbs and what interests you most and then it will be easier to continue with the other books. If you download the Bible books from jw.org, you can listen to some good readers that make the scriptures more alive. Wish you happy reading..

oh, yes I am reading the bible everyday, and I wouldn't want to miss reading it either. My bible has a yearly reading program where I read the New Testament in the morning and the Old Testament at night, but I have found it is easier to read both in the morning. I will rad the passages for that day before I even get on my computer. I am in the book of Revelation, and Micah. I will be finishing Micah tomorrow and staring on Nahum on Thursday. I feel tht my reading of the bible everyday, as drawn me closer to Jesus, and that is a good thing. I wouldn't want to be without Him in my life, as without Him, I am nothing, or have nothing, but with Him I am everything and have everything. I do intend to start over again in January, that is for sure. I want to keep reading it until Jesus comes back for his church. Take care, and have a blessed Christmas.

Hi, rosekiss It is great to find some who read the Bible, it seems we are many here in myLot. It is a good idea to read the Hebrew and Greek scriptures on the same day, as it is easier to get the whole picture that way. Jesus often quoted from the prophets and he also fulfilled lots of the old prophecies that tell about Messiah. Even the time when he would be born, which was about beginning of October, can be found in the prophecy of Daniel. The Bible tells us that many had seen the time table and were waiting for Messiah to be born just before it happened. It looks like many are going to start reading January 1st, so we can tell each other what we have found and discuss the treasures of the Holy Scriptures. And if we all pray for wisdom and help to understand, we might be surprised what kind of people God will send to teach us.. Wish you the best and a great time in the coming days..

Yes, I am reading the Bible regularly. I think reading is better than listening. Because we can understand very well by reading the Bible. While listening we can not understand very well.
