I was watching this movie where one of the main heroes lost his memory . And it seriously got me thinking . If you loose your memory is it like you did not lived before that , the new you that awake one day and you are somewhere knowing nothing , and his past is like he never lived . Do people that lost their memory have like skipped all the years of their life to the day they awake after the memory loss ? Its like you are born knowing a lot but yet you just start your life .

Well this is a situation that we have seen enacted by characters like Jason Bourne. The numerous upheavals and new experiences would overwhelm anyone because everyone would expect you to remember and it'd be infuriating if you could recall nothing. In fact there can be two sides to this argument. A person who has had a terrible life full of sorrows and hardships would in fact welcome such an event-for it would enable him to start afresh- but even then he would not know that he had a very bad life earlier, so its more of a bane than a boon. One would not even know who their friends or enemies are and can get into trouble. We all look back and think if we could forget the bad memories it would be great but if we only had good memories would they be good anymore? For example if we only had black would we understand black? Its only because there is white there is black and its only because there are bad memories there are good memories. It'd indeed be a sad day if a person wakes up and cant remember anything

Yes its like that . Well there are some thing you wish you can forget but you cant , and you need to make mistakes to get to the good part of life , so anyway its like loosing everything bad but the good with it . And at all you need to start a new to know this world maybe it will be nice cuz you might be like a child and see it with you childish eyes ;)

I think it depends on the damage that your brain suffered. Have you ever seen 50 first dates? In that movie, Drew Barrymore has a short-term memory condition. She retained all of memories prior to the day of her accident, the day of her father's birthday. She remember everything, but not that she has been in an accident and that she was in a coma after that. So everyday when she wakes up, she wakes up thinking that it is her father's birthday. And to simplify life for her, her father and brother just makes everyday pretty much the same day for her so that they don't have to explain it to her everyday. Then there was another guy in the movie whose memory only lasts for 10 seconds. So I guess when you lose your memory, it depends on hw much your brain has suffered.

For long term memory, exactly as you said. No memory of who you are, what are the things that make you you. I hope so too.

Ye i watched the movie and it was great . But that's for the short memory . What will happen if the long memory is deleted you will have nothing that you can call you , and just like when the short memory was deleted in the movie - she did not recognize a lot of stuff and they remade the day for her . I hope nothing like this happens to anyone , but just got me wondered ;) Thanks for the respons it was interesting .

yes i guess that people that lose their memories really forget everything they lived and is like they got born again. sometimes i wished i lost my memory and started a new life bcs till now not a big deal thing happened so maybe if i lost nothing much would be lost. but there are people i wouldnt want to forget like my friends^^ and my mum and my sisters and my ex and also youuu xansus ^^ and other friends i have also

Well i think noone really wants to forget all their loved ones and all their feelings :) And to start expiriancing all the good and painfull things again is not really nice ;) But if you forget you will not feel anything toward you wife or husband that lived with you like 10 years , this person will be unknown to you , and the same with your parents your friends and all :) Yes we know its not good but still got me wondering do you really start your life from there :)

yes is like our life starts from there bcs we dont remember nothing that happened so is like everyone is a stranger to us. so for sure is like we are born again. other day i was thinking about that and i was thinking that would be maybe a good experience. not lose all memories but just some that hurt us^^ for example till my 16 years i was happy but after that my world started to ruin mostly.

Hello friend, i can say that i'm not really sure if people loose their memory, but after that still keep their skills. I think that if they forget their past, they will forget much more than just the memories, but the way some stuff has to be done

It did not happen to me, but i wish it does not happen in future also. I remember everything what happened in my life such as bad memories and good memories as both memories are part of my life and i don't forget those memories. As bad memories taught me a lot in life whereas good memories have been great feelings.

It can be scary starting from scratch again. I am going to throw this out here as well. A person can lose not only his memory of memories, but his memory of knowledge of things such as numbers, and the alphabet. I have seen grown men not knowing how to speak they have to learn everything all over. It can be real sad.

Better known as "amnesia" there are several types of amnesia but all have the same meaning,Inability to remember something or memory loss. I wouldn't want to experience any of those types!
