What is the Significance of Signatures on Posts or Discussions at MyLot?

Hi Friends, In my short span of about 10 months (of association) with MyLot, I have seen that there are two distinct categories of MyLotters - One who prefer to start off or participate in discussions with their own signatures and the Second Set is of the people who don't use any Signatures. Now, I am still feeling that I belong to the stone age or a time from the past where people used to write down letters, applications and what not. In that era(whatever you call it) we used to put down our signatures and that conveyed some meaning. So for those who post signatures, I can relate to and understand their point of view(maybe somewhat even if not 100%) . But for those, who dont use signatures, I feel they are from the newer time slot where I am considered old. Going by the trends of today, I understand that these are becoming obsolete and some day in the future there would be no signatures anywhere. So my curiosity forces me to ask me fellow MyLotters - What Significance does a Signature have on the Post or Discussions. Kindly share your opinions. Cheers, theSids.

@Akp It indeed is an honour to have someone start using his signature here on my discussion and I am really excited and happy.. I think your signature looks kool. Hope to see the next ones soon @viji Doc, you dont need to turn into a statistician and keep all those counts but I believe it would be more fun and something like a treasure hunt... I would keep my eyes open and try to find if akp used the next signatures and then let you know

I have never used signature in any of my discussions. I do not know why some people have adopted the style of placing their signatures after each discussion they started but maybe it is just a personal preference which of course is unique as many mylotters are doing without signature. I don't see it having any bearing to their posts. lets see how it looks like signing off with a signature. zandi458

Thanks Zandi. It really looks good. You have two angels there and they spread some goodness around. Yes, I feel that it is something personal touch as they say but it looks better to me. Honored to have your fist signature here on my discussion

I have not used it anywhere...not even in mails...in mails..for some professionals its a good option if they have to give their phone numbers etc for increasing their contacts....but here at mylot i find it meaningless ( i don't have to say anything against who use it regularly) ..its my view...as we use username here..we don't want to put our real name..so we can't put that..then again referral links are not allowed here...and if you want to send some other msg at the end of the discussion you can type it each time...when we are typing so much why be lazy for 4-5 words.......again i think that here we respond to many types of discussions...so the same ending line doesn't suit all the time....also i think it becomes too typed...which i don't like...i prefer changes in life same words repeated again and again may bring boredom to me tc

Hi eshaan, I understand your view here... as we are not into anything professional here, we can skip the signature part and it seems somewhat meaningless. But for the ending line, I think we can base it and select as per the discussion we are replying to. Cheers, theSids.

hi thesids I have not really noticed and to tell the truth I think its just habit with the ones who leave signatures for me my user name is up there and is that not enough'for most people as all typing takes time. I also think some people are a little pretentious when they leave flourishing initialsahdty are actually a bit hard to read. My user name up on top should surely tell who I am as is my last name. okay I will be different tonight. P.M.H, T HATS ME first middle and last initial.

As far as i know, signatures are used to end your messages. I don't use signatures cuz i don't usually use it when joining forums. I prefer they just read whatever my message was. But i've seen some users who use signatures here and they're pretty cool, too.

Hi FrontVisions, I think then it is more out of habit that you are not into using signatures.

Hello thesids, I don't use signatures in my discussions and comments, but I do use them in my private messages. Instead of signatures I use an ending formula as we use in a classical letter, and you can see that I always use a greeting in the begining of my messages. Maybe I'm from the stone age, too, or it's only a good habbit comming from our work at the office. I hope you'll stop feeling bad because you're a little old fashioned. Good luck!

Hi inu, That came as a relief to me in that I do have company here and am not the only one from the distant past I appreciate your using signatures in private messages. I was referring to the ending formula that you mention about.

Hi sids, Do we need to put signatures in mylot. This idea never comes in mind. I have seen that some members are very particular on signatures and some are not. I may include the later group. I don't think I can start the new habit. I felt weird to thinking of adding a signature. Let me follow this style please.

Hi Sree, Yes, I never want anyone to do things that are not easy for him/her. I saw that many people have a style statement attached with their posts - the way they signed them and I too use signature so I thought to seek the opinion and views of mylotters. Luckily many appreciate or do not have problems (with others) who use signatures and I am happy that a couple atleast tried to put their signatures for the first time on my discussion. That made my day.

Well I don't use any signatures in my discussions. I only start off with greetings that's all. Ending with signatures may be a bit formal, but it does make you seem friendly and approachable. I do like people who sign off as who they are because, that makes them all the more noticeable and stand out more too!

Hi JudgeIronFist, Thanks for your views and especially sharing the fact that the signatures do make us seem friendly and approachable. So I think you should use them too maybe once a while

Sids- I suppose I have always felt that it is proper to begin and end a correspondence with a header and a signature. Though I admit that at times I will start out without a header simply because there is no good way to begin as in a writer whose screen name is all numbers-it just strikes me odd to write all of that out. However, I will sign all of my original responses with a signature. If I am following up to something I have already answered I typically do not use a signature unless the response is lengthy. Hi Anora, I have always seen your posts ending with Namaste-Anora and I highly respect that signature. Most of your discussions indicate you from a non-Indian place but each post has these words and it seems so very familiar and Indian. I really appreciate your response here and I too would try following your way.... Thanks for sharing your opinion. Regards, theSids.
