I spend lots of time playing video games on my PC, and to be honest, i enjoy doing it. But i do believe there are many positive sides of gaming, such as an improvement of the eye and hand reflexes etc, but on the other hand they do require a lot of time. So do what do you think are the negative and positive sides of gaming?

Well as far as i know your eyes are not affected by the monitor, not in a harmful way at least. This used to be the case with the old monitors, but the new ones have multiple layers of protection so you shouldn't be worried about it. Other factors such as the surrounds in which you are using your computer have a much greater effect on your sigh, than the monitor alone.

I added the tabs you see there, because they will be part of my answer. Playing video games on PC has, as you mentioned both positive and negative aspects. One of the most negative aspect can be addiction if you ask me, i heard of cases where people are so addicted to World of Warcraft for example, that they starve in order to play more. Wasting time i believe to be improper called, because in principle you play in your free time, and if this relaxes you and makes you have fun and feel good, you can't call it a waste, but if you are the type "sour looser" that curses a lot, and can't play a game with pauses, then this addiction can be considered a waste. As for positive aspects, alertness is indeed increased by shooter games, and in principle games that require fast reflexes - this can influence driving in a positive way, gamers being in general considered faster then non gamers. Depending on the type of game, you can learn lots of things from game, but you should always be able to make the difference between facts and fiction - tycoons can teach you about cities, transports, history battles, historic events.

In response to you saying that there are 'improvement to the eye',i strongly disagree. On the contrary, starring at the computer for long ours can cause eyesight problems.Good thing about gaming is definitely a good stress reliever. But i believe most people play games not because of stress but just for the fun of it.Theres isnt much good things about gaming. And it really depends how hardcore a player is.

The main negative would be that it does take a lot of time, some people would say that they are a waste of time since you could be doing more productive things instead of gaming. Gaming does help hand-eye coordination, and I find that it also keeps you mentally sharp. I play a lot of Starcraft 2, and everyone of course wants to win at whatever game they are playing. In SC2, your strategy needs to change almost every game, it depends on who your are playing against. One strategy will not win every game you play in, you need to constantly evolve your gameplay, based on what the other side is doing.

Some positives are what you listed. Another positive is a way to experience a positive virtual-reality sort of world. However, a negative to go along with yours is that they can be addicting and procure a negative effect on real life situations. There was a TED talk on this, and it's very insightful: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dE1DuBesGYM

well on the positive side, i'd say that games eases your anxiety and stress, lets go of your worries, and makes you calm and relaxed. on the negative side, you forget what really matters in the real world like your job, your dreams, your study, and even relationships. so i suggest that your time with games and reality should be balanced..

I think that games arent that great a way to build reflexes, try nunchaku/nunchucks. Its good because you have a bit of weight to add, so you also build up some strength as well as doing some tricky stuff. I would be careful about saying gaming is good for your eyes, as it can also damage them.
