Maybe U like swimming, me too. But it is not good swimming in the morning. Don't choose morning to be a favorite time. Because morning exercise will be harmful. It's proved, an athlete who practices swimming in the morning is more susceptible having infection. It is related to the immune system. And also there is a sport effect which will lower resistance to bacteria and viruses. Exercise it in a high level is also harmful. The reason is it will give effect on immune pressure.

It's actually beneficial to swim in the morning. In the morning, you are "fresh", having woken up with plenty if energy. Practicing with the correct drills/sets, you will find swimming exercise extremely beneficial. A possible cause of disease might be one not taking proper care of oneself. It varies from person to person, but many swimmers prepare a towel by the side in advance, so when they leave the pool, they can wrap the towel around themselves as a way to gather warmth quicker. Possibility of sickness will increase with lowering temperatures of the water, especially with outdoor swimming. Don;t try it in the winter. :)

MichaelNil, I am with you on the taking proper care of oneself out of the pool where people just neglect most of the time causing them to catch the unnecessary chill and/or infections. I believe that the writer here could have caught on some old wives' tale.

I appreciate the support. Taking proper care of yourself is extremely important, which is probably why you would catch an illness. The writer might have caught onto an old wives' tale, or maybe it was from personal experience. Perhaps he had been told about this by another person. However the information was received, it is clear that the source is not quite credible. All in all, don't worry too much about falling ill in the pool. As long as you take care of yourself properly, you should be alright.

coollady9, I am sorry but I am wondering the credibility of your source of information for your post here. I come from a competitive swimming background where swimming trainings were intense with morning and evening sessions. And, if I may add none of us including your country's national swimmers have come off worse, even to this day. I hope you will check the facts at your end and hopefully it is not one based on some unproven hearsay. Have a nice weekend.

Agreed. I come from a competitive swimming background as well, and am quite sure that you rarely get sick from swimming. Some drills and sets are intense; one will want the pool water to be cold. It is more difficult to swim in hot water than cold water.

I don't believe that is the case. it sounds like an old wives tale to me.

I never thought about swimming in the early morning; becau seI hate the cold. I only go into the water once the water warms up afternoon.

I haven't heard that. Actually I have heard that it is good to workout in the morning as it is cooler outside so you can work out harder without over stretching your immune system. Swimming in the morning would only be dangerous in the Winter but that would be only if it was outside as the heat of the pool and the cold outside the pool could put you in a form of shock. Also you could get cramps. The worst thing for your immune system is quick variations in heat and cold. That can cause some issues but nothing to serious. Also my rugby team would practice in the morning never got sick.
