Silly Bands...What was the trend when you were in school?

Silly Bands seem to be all the rage right now with my daughter and her friends. They are colored rubber bands (but not so tight) that are made into character shapes. These things are all over the place. It's amazing the simplest invention can be such pleasure to a child. So tell me, what was the trend when you were a pre-teen/teen? I remember slinky's and silly puddy!

Oh god so many trends, Doc Martins, Adidas tracksuit bottoms, those rubber band things we used to wear, had a funny name but forgot what they were called now, they were just round rubber bangles and came in different colours. We also had slinky's, pogs, football stickers, tamagotchi digital pets, friendship bands, coloured hairspray (which was banned in school) We also had trends with our make up and hair. One was wearing pale lipstick with a dark lipliner, also lots of black eyeliner and mascara. Another trend was blue eyeshadow with pink lipstick. And lots of people (inc me) used to wear black nail polish with white spots and then white nail polish with black spots, and then we would match our nail polish with the outfit we had on, which sometimes meant that I painted my nails a different colour everyday! With hair lots of people had bleach blonde streaks at the front, and having your hair "feathered" was popular!

I really don't remember a lot of things that were trends but I remember leg warmers being popular when FlashDance was out and I remember parachute pants being popular and I believe that was after MJ Hammer released a song. I think that the silly bands are stupid but I did buy my daughter one bag as she was wanting them and I really didn't know what they were.

Wow, I think I am the oldest here, I remember the mood rings were very popular when I was young. Then when Saturday Night Fever came out, disco and what I call the Farrah Faucet(sp?) hair was everywhere along with flared jeans...

I sure remember the flared jeans that dragged the ground. I made mine out of red white and blue striped. I just had to have a mood ring. I think we were the same era. Just yesterday. But now my grandchildren love the bands and a hola hoop. I remember mine, my parents thought they were to expensive and my grandfather bought mine. I was so excited and it lasted forever.

I remember those legwarmers when I was in elementary school (I'm an 80's chick) and then in high school we had those slap-on bracelets. LOL even Coca-Cola had their brands on them, so cute! :-)

Now i remember my high school days were pop swatch was so popular. You're in when you have different kinds of pop swatch. Pop Swatch was really fun since you can change the straps and all but it was expensive. But then that was what we were into when we were in High School!

I grew up in the 80s era. When I was in high school, giving your friends friendship bracelets was the 'in' thing. I think they were not silly; I think they were a product of hard work and sincerity. Some friends who are really skilled, make their own bracelets made out of yarn. They can craft different and colorful styles.

I don't know about other schools, but at my smaller school where we had to wear uniforms and couldn't wear jewelry fluffy pens were the cool thing to have. The more fancy pens a girl owned the better. I don't remember what the thing was for the boys but I remember envying those pens. Ha ha. I wonder what the craze was for the public school kids? I bet it wasn't as lame as pens.
