is santa claus male or female?

well it is obvious from the way we see santa claus is a big, stout bearded man. but why he is called santa which is being use referring a female saint?

The name 'Santa Claus' comes from the Dutch 'Sinterklaas' which is a corrupted form of 'Saint Nicholas'.

The Americans imported the idea of Santa Claus from Dutch settlers and modified it in various ways. In England he is more commonly known as Father Christmas.
