Every year at christmas you see all the decorations that you can buy. What happened to the good old paper chains that we use to make as children, when we were at school.I remember as a child making paper chains in my classroom with my friends, seeing who could make the longest one, as well as taking them home, feeling proud of what i had made.I have not seen the packs that we use to be able to get this time of year in shops.Do they still make paper chains in the schools.

Hi, Joystick, no they don't, unfortunately, but you certainly gave me a lovely idea for a home xmas craft! Thanks! I have 2 kids at home, and I really am trying to go back to the older way of living (year-round) as it's a lot better that way, less stress. I do remember making those chains in my own school when I was growing up, but totally forgot all about them. Man, I MISS those days!!! Happy Holidays!

I am having some children over that are young in the school holidays to give their mum a break and i was thinking that i have to find things for them to do.I thought that it would be nice if they could make something and take it home, i have great memories as a child of making those paper chains.

I love those decorations to- whenever we have a Christmas party in school- we always have those. Oh, those good old days... Many kids still do those, because not only is it easy to make, it's also really nice with lots of colors.

I remember making paper chains when I was a child, then again with my children before they grew up. I should have made one this year for the tree, but it's already decorated. I made one one time from gum wrappers, when chewing gum all came in those foil covered paper. It was pretty, too. Now you've got me in the mood. You don't have to wait for kids to start making things like that! My tree is decorated with mostly hand made ornaments and I enjoy putting them on each year.

Thank fully my child is into homemade crafts so I do expect to see paper chains as well as fabric chains, felt and other type of ornaments. Some of the fun of decorating is seeing what you can create yourself.

It is great when children enjoy making things like that as well as whhen they see the end result.I can remember my parents buying packs of all ready cut paper that you licked and stuck to meke the paper chains with, i have not seen packs like that in shops for a very long time.

I use to enjoy making those paper chain garlands and remember bringing them home as well to wrap around our tree or to hang somewhere in the house. Yes, they still make those chains today to decorate classrooms with in the elementary schools. It depends mostly on the teacher and how she chooses to decorate her classroom. It is certainly one of the easiest and cheapest ways to decorate.

Probably they still do, but I am out of school for while, I have no idea if they still do that or not. Well, it is fun to make those Christmas decoration yourself, and it is more fun and enjoyable. I would definitely saving those money shop at the store if I got those great ideas. I might simply spend time to do those paper chain, and hang them around the Christmas tree.

I was born in 1983 I dont recall my school having us make paper chains. My mother used to have us make them at home. We did it for Christmas as well as Halloween. It was fun to see how big we could make them and hang them up across the ceiling. My daughter and I did this a few years in a row. Its a very inexpensive easy craft for kids to do to keep them busy.

You know, i have not seen one of them in years either - I remember doing the same as you when I was in school. My daughter was in kindy this year (summer holidays now till the end of January) & she didn't bring one home but she did make a few christmas decorations to hang on the tree.

I think the kids made some in preschool, however never in elementary school, which is a shame. I remember making them when I was a little girl. My kids used to make them for our tree at home. We have a big tree that we cut down each year and when the kids were little, we also had a small like 4 foot tree that they would decorate with all kinds of paper chains, popcorn and other handmade crafts. Of course now they are all teenagers and older, so I don't see many handmade crafts from the boys, however, my daughter still likes to make new stuff.

I don't think that they make paper chains at my daughter's school. She is in second grade now and though they have brought Christmas back into the school to a certain extent, they aren't doing all of the things that we used to do when I was in school. I was quite impressed, however that she did come home from school in both kindergarten and in first grade with ornaments that they made at school that we could use to decorate our Christmas tree.

I can remember making paper chains for christmas as a child. Decorations don't have to be extravagant or expensive to mean something to you. My favorite Christmas decorations will always be the handmade ones that were created from the heart.

I don't know....I did with my granddaughter a couple of years ago. This year she had no interest in putting up her little tree. I have a big one for me....a little one for her!
