It is disheartening to watch people who are self destructing before our very eyes. You extend a helping hand but they slap it away. Really you can't force anyone to get help. Well you can, but there hearts will not be into it. They'll just be right back off the wagon. They won't see what's wrong until its too late.

Your right, but at least if you have offered your help they know that when they are ready for help then they can turn to you. I went through a bit of a self destructive phase when I was younger and know that even if you dont want help, its nice to know that it is there.

I agree 100% - and I've been around many people with addictions and mental illnesses. They may say that they want to get help, but the only problem is, they don't want to work at it. And part of the work is facing their own demons and dealing with them.
I have been there for years, and seen both sides. It's like a comfort zone of sorts to stay in my then-current situation. I honestly don't know what changed me around but I just hated some of the feelings that came with some of the actions I took, and how it affected other people. I then became self-aware, faced my own demons, and overcame them.
I was ready. But the people in our lives that are suffering and not making an effort, aren't ready. That's their lives. I know it sounds tough, but it's a harsh reality. We can't live their lives for them; we can only live our own.
Let go and Let G-d.

Well said, well said indeed. Just hopefully they wake up and see what is happening. Where there ultimate path might be. Before its too late. They need to take the first step and we'll be there to offer support when they are ready to make the effort. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. That's true, however you still can help. Point them in the right direction everytime you see them. Believe it or not this does work. In time, they do see. When you discover they are moving in the right direction they will tell you it was their idea all along. This does not matter because the results are you did help.
