Should we brush our teeth after every meal or snack?

I know it would be ideal, then no one would need to see the dentist so often. But do we really need to? And what happens when you're at work and don't have enough time or it's inconvenient? :)

Nope. Brush your teeth one, to 2(tops), times a day. I only brushed my teeth once a day, in the morning, for about 5 years, and never got a single cavity, or had any other oral problem(I drank a lot of green, tea, and ate healthy, not eating grains-grains are a problem, they lodge in between your teeth and decay, which causes cavities-).Now I rarely brush my teeth, just swishing water in and out real fast, wiping off excess "goo" with a tissue paper or my finger, and I still am not getting any cavities(I still drink green tea which helps a bunch too).

I know people who only brush once a day without doing it properly and get no cavities!!

Whoa, four months later ;) Yep, brushing your teeth a bunch can actually 'cause' cavities, because you are scraping off your teeth's primary defense against them. It's kind of like sanding your skin away, exposing flesh that can become infected...

So many articles, news and reports say good and bad to do it or not..I simply brush Once in the morning and at night. When I was working I always had a spare toothbrush and brushed at worked after lunch, as I had to be speaking close faced and well no reason to have acquaintance join in on my lunch..LOL

Never thought about this - usually, I would just chew some gum, but I may have to take my toothbrush to work too!!

In a perfect world we'd all have the time to do it as well as the memory to do it more often. You know like I often hear other Mom's saying to their kids to brush their teeth after eating candy or sweets... I've never pestered my kids to brush other then before school or at bed time provided I could get them to brush more than once a day. I think the only people who are really in this habit have to for the sake of their dental work.

I think that it's probably better to actually just brush them once or twice a day, and that's it. I don't think that it's good to actually do it more than that.

Most people here have also said the same thing, once or twice a day...

I brush mine twice a day. It's not always possible to do so at work. Either way, natural corrosion, wear and tare will ensure that we will have to visit the dentist occasionally. But it's not cheap!

Some people say that we should not brush our teeth more than twice a day otherwise it will damage our gums. others say that it's good to brush your teeth after every meal. What I know is that Koreans brush their teeth after every meal and don't have as many problems with their teeth as Americans. Personally I brush my teeth every morning and before going to bed + after lunch.

I think it would be a good idea, but a bit of a hassle - plus I think apparently it's bad to brush straight after a meal because of the weakened enamel after eating...

It is unnecessary. If you want to keep your mouth clean, you can rinse by water. And it is a good habit to just brush your teeth in morning and evening.

Yes, we need to or else our teeth will get weak and we'll have tooth ache and other symptoms of weak teeth. If you don't have time then don't brush your teeth.
