Hi fellow writers on here!I just had a good deal of my own homemade breakfast. And to tell you it's really delicious that i feel like I'm eating at a restaurant.I don't usually cook this great but this morning, I happen to stumble on my gigantic cookbook and started flipping pages and saw a recipe which fortunately contains stuffs i have in my fridge. So with great enthusiasm brought the cookbook to my kitchen and satisfied myself perfectly. Thanks to my cookbook. How often do you use cookbooks in your kitchen then?Care to share please and thanks.

I Love to cook. When its the usual daily stuff cook it up as it goes up everyday. But most of the time I love to make things special. Like.. for today it was PANEER BUTTER MASALA and ALOO PARANTHA. For snack it was MUTTON CUTLET. All 0of these recipes are my ow.. so no looking cookbooks. But I learned to make Meat Ada from Magic Oven Cook book. Gotta try Fried Cakes from it tomorrow. Most usual recipe reference is khanakhazana.com. I store up interesting recipes inmy blog http://www.cookituprecipes.blogspot.com

It depends on what I am going to cook. Meals if they are just our everyday type of meal I don't need a cookbook. I learned from my Grandmother that a good cook only uses a cookbook when making recipes they want to try they haven't made before. She would bake pies, casseroles, sauces, desserts, canning, all kinds of things from memory. That always amazed me as a child. I would ask her how she knew how much to add of each thing. She said after you learn the basics it is easier to be able to come up with new idea's. She is right. I do use cookbooks when I am going to try and make something new, something special. I don't always follow the recipe exactly though... my kids always say that when I cook the same dish twice it never tastes the same.. Thing is they didn't complain.. Now my daughter loves to cook and experiments with her cooking. She will use the internet, and cook books to compare recipes and then come up with her own dish from them. She is a good cook

Your grandmother must be so proud of you acquiring her skills in cooking and it didn't even stop in that but you were able to hand it on to your daughter.I'm sure your kids never complain because basicaly your recipes are changing for the better each time.It just take interest in-order to make something great. So as interest in cooking.

I hardly ever refer to a cookbook unless it's something special for a holiday dinner or something I'm totally unfamiliar with. I probably tend to cook the same thing over and over again, but many of the dishes I cook are simple and really don't require a recipe.

The only thing I will need a cookbook for is the pumpkin pie. I don't make it often enough to remember how much of what to use. Other than that, it's simple stuff: Turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, a vegetable, salad... none of those require a cookbook. I leave the fancy stuff to my daughter because she likes to experiment.

So what are you planning to prepare for this Christmas season then.Need the helpof your cookbook?

Hi! for me I don't usually read cookbooks but my boyfriend is a chef so whenever he cooks for me I will just look at the ingredients and how he cooks it and the next time that i will cook it for myself i just make alternatives so that it will be called my dish hehe ^_^
10 Dec 10
Lucky you for having a chef boyfriend. And you're a fast learner to get it from just watching him cook.
8 Dec 10
yes sometimes. i refer cookbook when i want to cook a food which i don't know how cook.also when i want to taste that kind of food.
9 Dec 10
It's always wonderful to try to make a new dish right. It's very interesting and worth the effort too.And you're right sweet , we have to add our personal touch for it to suit our preference. Some prefer somewhat sweet and sour taste others would be into spicy while others would add more salt on a dish.So suit yourself then and enjoy cooking especially great new recipes for this holiday season.

once I learn the basics of what I am trying to make I rarely refer to the cookbook. Like 1 loaf of bread = 3 cups of some kind of flour 1 cup some kind of liquid a fat some sweet a little salt and yeast.
10 Dec 10
As easy as that bread ingredient which you have memorized by heart.I hope I could do that with many dish as i use my cookbook more often now.

The point is that is not all that goes in just the basics. Same with any most recipes. You learn what makes Bread, casserole, quiche, crepes, whatever then you add your own little extras to the basics. I look at a cookbook if I am making something new but rarely follow the recipe I only use it as a reference.

Great you had a delicious breakfast!!! I don't go by book much, so I cook few dishes which I learn from my mother, friends, sisters or relatives. SO frankly speaking I have never cooked anything referring in a cookbook except ready to cook instant vegetables and gravies.
10 Dec 10
With the help of these instant food, our life is much much easier.Though it's not so good to have it on a daily basis krisk. So i think you need to pick one cookbook already and enjoy cooking.

It all depends on what I am making. If I am making something new, then I will always use a cookbook. If I am making something that happens to be a regular family meal, I make it without the use of a cook book. Sometimes, I get in moods, where I want to be creative and make new things all the time. I guess, it just depends on the mood that I am in.
9 Dec 10
Hi buggles,in your case we should change the cokbook name into a good mood book (smiles).Enjoy there cooking.

I have found that I use cookbooks when I make something specific, like my Taco stirfry, I love it yet I'm not used to making it so I follow the recipe, otherwise if I don't have anything special in mind I just throw stuff togather. What ever sounds good and that I have on hand all ready. I have come up with some pretty good dishes just throwing ingredients in the pan(or pot)as the case may be.
9 Dec 10
Wow!So you must be a born genius when it comes to cooking cegypt.Imagine you're like creating something out from somewhere?Enjoy!

I used to always have to check with a cookbook when i first learned to cook. i thought it was the only way a recipe could turn out. Over the years i have had a lot of practice. i still use the cookbook, but not as much as I did in the past.
9 Dec 10
So you passed the beginners stage already sender.I hope I will too eventually.Enjoy!

I use cookbooks when I'm in the mood to make something new, or reviewing something that I'm about to do again. There are times when I just guesstimate and things come out alright. The best thing about cookbooks for me is making something and my end product comes out looking EXACTLY like the picture! :)
9 Dec 10
Funny red, i like that guesstimating thing you know. And oh only for the looks of it?In that case it will be good if you have a restaurant, you could sell it first by the way it looks. But,how about it's taste then?

I always bring my recipe because I can barely cook. I still struggle a lot while cooking with the recipe provided during cookery lessons in the past. Therefore, people never ask me to cook a meal for them because I will either make a mess or cooking something awful.
10 Dec 10
Yes, for beginners like us, we have to start with cookbooks and then finally get rid of it when we learn the dish by heart.

I seldom use cookbooks because I usually just cook what I know. I would probably try a few recipes from time to time and then refer to the internet for recipes but if I cannot find what I'm looking for or I'm not happy with the recipe, then I would refer to the cookbooks that my fiance has. :) It's handy and serves its purpose especially when you're clueless on what to cook and then find out that there are easier recipes to try in your cookbook. My fiance refers to his cookbooks when he gets lost in cooking our meals. He says it has been a really good buy and some of his cookbooks are gifts from friends.

When I'm in a hurry i just cook food which i could prepare even with eyes closed.Though during holidays and free time, I like to take it slow and have a try on new recipes and admire the exotic taste after.

I own several cookbooks, but I almost never use them. I really like to cook, but following a recipe feels very boring to me a lot of the time. I prefer to just make something up when I cook. I look in my fridge and cabinets and find a few ingredients I want to "play" with and try to think how I could make a meal with those. It can be really fun to come up with new dishes and experiment with unusual foods. Most of what I make is in the skillet because it's just so muche easier to be creative and interact with the cooking when it's right in front of you as opposed to putting something in the oven.
10 Dec 10
But you see Valene, it's nice when food has a variation too. That's why we have grilll, fried, boiled and many more. And take note baked food is also known to be tasty. So make use of your oven more often now and enjoy.

I usually don't use a cookbook. I usually use a cooking website to get my recipes. Though I do look thru books to get ideas and then look for variations online that seem more pheaseable. Like the recipes call for things you will not use often enough to justify the purchase or something so unusual you would not know where to find it I look online to find an alternative variation of the dish.

That's right snuggle, some recipes have rare special ingredients on them.Luckily, we could supplement that with other stuffs also once we don't have it.And we're the chef in our kitchen so we can do as we please right?Enjoy cooking.

I don't . I love cooking and I so believe that the thrill in cooking is exploration because i get to have a chance come up something that is new and unique!
9 Dec 10
Wow!All by your own without referring to a cookbook, that would even be awesome.I wish I could do that too, though I admit it will take a long time for me because I'm still learning now and surely loving it.Enjoy!

I don't refer from my cookbook if i will cook those everyday dishes. But whenever i have to cook for an occasion, i would dig into my cookbook to check if all the ingredients needed are in my list already. Also, i refer to it for new recipes far from the ordinary. Nowadays though, i refer to the internet for easy location of the dish i want to cook. The internet offers lots of styles of cooking for a certain recipe and i would choose those rated as the best by those who have experienced cooking them. I really admire having the internet at our fingers! It makes finding something or someone easier.

High technology based you are simplyd.Enjoy cooking and impressing your loved ones each day with your ordinary and special dishes.

Hello dragonangel! Honestly, I don't have a cookbook, I learned how to cook by asking the ingredients from my parents or just reading the recipe at the back of the food wrapper. But, I do want a cookbook, I tried to see some on bookshops but undecided though if I really need it since we have a cook at the house. Cheers!
9 Dec 10
Hi there frenzy!Lucky you having a cook in the house(smiles). But you see,it would be nice also to impress someone you love dearly with your own labor of love sometimes. And hey, I advise you to get even one cookbook which has everything from poultry dishes, meat dishes, appetizers, soup and deserts. And also choose the one that is hardbound so you coould keep it for long if not forever.Okay?Enjoy eating oh I mean enjoy cooking(lol).
