When my PC become slower and slower over time i do two things - clean all stuff + registry with CCleaner or go to my windows registry with command regedit. When first method is used i am not in charge for all windows registry etc stuff cleaning, but in other method i control it by myself so far as my PC knowledge goes. Usually i must remove some old and uninstaled software registry data files/folders and less often to manually edit some registry keys. What about you my friends? Whats your most preffered method of registry cleaning, editing?

I don't use either one. Can you use regedit easily? Or do you have to really know what you're doing?

if you know that you uninstalled program from your pc, but it still have folder in your registry, then i would suggest to delete it. But if you are unsure about your registry and just want to keep your Pc clean install CCleaner - its free ;)

After you open it there is options: Cleaner and Registry. Cleaner will clean your IE, windows explorer, system and some advanced files and folders while under registry option you must press search for issues button and then fix selected issues. good luck with it ;)

For the cleanup work, I run TuneUp utilities 2010, it's far better than CCleaner and has more options. Those kind of programs are good at pointing out the posible problems, but I must review the proposed solutions, as not all of the are so good as they claim. I also run regedit manually all the time. Not for the cleanup work, but instead for changing some setting Windows want us to not to touch. If done properly, it has a great potential of configuring your system and unhide options. For example, I frequently change the file asociations directly from the registry instead of doing it in Windows explorer (more on my Win7 notebook, where Microsoft directly removed that option).

hehe... how do you know that tuneup utilities is better than ccleaner and few other pc cleaning tools? I had installed tuneup utilities once and you know what happened after i used it - my PC windows system crashed, it started with few strange error messages about dll errors and then BUM! PC stopped to work. bad experience for me, but maybe i was just unlucky :D

I know it by experience only. I installed them both, run them to optimize and clear, and came to the conclusion that TuneUp has more options, not only to clean garbage but also touch many hidden options. But that crashed your PC only for installing it? Seems suspicious to me. Perhaps you already have something more than just TuneUp, some viruses may do that. For me, never a problem.

well it's a good practice to remove unnecessary registry entries from your system.. but I generally prefer not to touch registry until it's necessary.. but if I found my system slow.. I do disk defragment and also use other softwares to remove unnecessary registry details..

yes, disk defragmentation helps alot, but still every user must choose what method works better for him and it depends for what purposes user uses his/her PC. :)

I used CCleaner and only registry editing if I know what I'm doing. Windows Registries is BIG and ugly, eh? Always backup first before editing

I use Registry Mechanic. Have had it for a couple of years and it monitors constantly for any changes made when I'm browsing. I also run it to do clean up about once a week. After the very first run, I've seldom had any problems to be fixed.

Yes. I pay for it yearly. But to me, it is well worth not having to worry about doing the scans manually.

I actually don't clean my computer from the registry. I just uninstall the software that I don't use anymore to free up space and that is enough for me. -) I only use regedit to clean computers from malwares, trojans, viruses, etc. I'm not actually fully satisfied with the anti-viruses so I preferred to clean those viruses manually. And to do that, I use the regedit and remove their traces especially from the start up. But before I remove them from the registry, I'm checking them first from the msconfig utility. -) The other thing I do with registry are just for fun modifications like editing the logon screens or configurations of different games like warcraft. -)
