Wow, finally the Dutch police is doing their job. Normally police wouldn't give a dang if you'd report something as severe as assault. But now because America has likely put some pressure on this investigation they finally get out of their seats and do something.
What do you think about this case?

The 16 year old is going to be scapegoated as anyone who is a computer person would know that DDoS attacks are not done by one person but generally a group of people or a massive Bot Net that sends request to a server over and over again until the server is dealing with so many request that it can't server the legitimate request that it is receiving. So the websites go down. Also this was preformed by an Anonymous Group (May or may not be the same as Anonymous). The DDoS was most likely using computers that had programs that included a code and a command that could be used to make the computer send messages to these servers over and over again without the users knowing which is a Bot Net.
This user was mostly likely caught because they where using the simplest and easiest to trace method.

They probably used LOIC ( yes they, there's a second guy caught) just like I did and a few hundred other people. Good luck to Dutch police and the justice department for arresting us. I know the highest punishment one can get for DDOSSING is 6 years. You don't get even that much for rape.
I love my country. *pukes*

Arresting one person using the progs is not going to stop them but someone had to give the impression that they were doing something to stop if. Horray! I say this as a computer professional who is familiar with Denial of Service attacks caused by automated programs that send request after request to a server until it is overwhelmed. I was actually very impressed with Amazon.com, who has a state of the art system of servers that allows them to handle a sudden jump in internet traffic with ease. Pay pal did fairly well, too. This kind of internet attack has happened before, and will happen again, because the repeater program is easy to write and share. It's somewhere in the Computer Geek 101 curriculum.

The people who are a real threat are the ones you will never catch because only a moron (or a 16 year old) uses their own computer for such attacks. Experts use a network of zombie machines infected with a virus that really isn't a threat to anyone but the target of the DOS attack.
As far as I know none of the targets of these attacks suffered anything really. The Visa/Mastercard websites weren't really anything more than a billboard as all credit card business is done through banks and separate servers. I heard Sarah Palin's website was a little troubled, but again, it was very brief.

Some don't use Botnets to do the attack but their own machines the thing that most likely allowed them to catch this person is that they may of been one of the last ones to join the Attack after the first Blast of the LOIC was fired so it was easy to see the attack pattern and they fired their IC right back which was a party van.
The reason you can get away with using your own computer in these attacks is if you are apart of it during the first few seconds of the DDoS attack they will be more worried about keeping their site up and running that tracking down what traffic is good or what traffic is bad. So if you fire a LOIC too late or to early a party van is quickly called to come and throw a party for you.

Enforcement of the law need to be stricter in this type of high profiled case. It does not matter the age when a person attacks, as he/she needs to pay for their crime.
No one should take the law into their own hands, so this surely sets an example to others.

I agree the law is upside down and at times innocent people pay for things they have no involvement over, especially if they have no money to defend themselves at time.
It sure is a sick world, I agree.
