Overspending at Christmas time

I have got myself into terrible trouble, though saying that, it is mainly due to amazingly high bank charges that this has happened. I logged into my bank account today to find that I am overdrawn by nearly three hundred pounds. As I only earn one hundred pounds a month I do find this worrying. It is the bank charges of £29.50 per each direct debit to paypal that has caused this. I have had seven in one day. Due to the fact that these all went out in one day caused me to feel safe, and think that they had all been taken out beforehand. I know as I am writing this that it makes me sound so dumb. Surely banks should not be allowed to do this legally, I know they have to make their money somehow but I thought they simply invested our money and earned the interest. All I know is that my husband is going to go quite mental tonight at me, if anyone knows of any way that I can get the money back off the bank it would really help, needless to say, banks in the UK are not too popular with a lot of people due to the amounts of money they are able to rake in from idiots like me.
