Safe At Home - Aren't we suppose to be safe at home??

I had a hard time sleeping last night, so finally I was able to drift off. At 4:30am I hear the TV in our front room full blast. I jumped up and tugged at my boyfriend and whispered, oh my God some one is is here. Funny how we both whispered for a few seconds to each other as to who was in the apartment. So what does my boyfriend do; gets up quick to go check. I frantic yet whispering said NO, you could be hurt. HA! He had left his computer on some page that after so many hours it began playing a video clip. LOL.. How many of you get scared like that during sleep and go and confront danger?? Share some of your; what was at the moment scary, yet later turns out too funny. Reminds me of horror films...

I got the wits scared out of me one night. We have three sleep eaters in the house and I heard a big thump after not catching them in the act for about 3 weeks. I wasn't thinking someone was up eating. I grabbed a flyswatter and jumped out of bed. I started swinging in the kitchen at whoever was in there. It was my step son, who in his sleep, had run into the table while opening the fridge. The next morning, he had marks all over him and didn't know why. I had to explain that I thought we were being robbed and I beat him up for it. HAHA! He didn't even know I had hit him. Of course, I felt bad. I wasn't trying to hurt him but for three weeks the bumps in the night were non-existant. I still apologize to him about it.

Awwh sad and funny at the same time. Very understandable. One time I was in the bathroom and my son surprised me by coming home unannounced. I had no cell phone in the bathroom and no weapons. So I grabbed the shampoo bottle and walked out to see who it was, he yelled surprise right when I was going to throw it right at him. I believe we are all brave but the unexpected can be pretty scary for the moment, then funny after you look at it later...

Everyone has their bravery and non bravery moments. Being a single parent for many years I have had some not so brave moments. Normally I would not be scared but being awakened by the loud sound of what I though was a TV and being in a strange town as I am for yet another week. I suppose the shock of being awakened stirred a weak moment. Thanks for responding and be well.

Well, my wife is like you. Last week, she was telling that an intruder had come into our house, and shone a flash light, and when she switched on the bedside light, he dissappeared. My contention was it was not an intruder, but the light from my sons Mobile phone, which was flashing, because of the numerous SMS which he was recevieng from all his friends.(These young people receive SMS only during the nights, I do not know why). Of course, my wife is yet to be convinced.

hehehe pretty funny. Yes the cell phones do have a tendency to ring at all hours. I can see me cautious at all times each time I recall the flashing light. LOL..

Ha , that's a funny-scary encounter. At first going I was like alright , this sounds like a Paranormal Activity story ... and then the second part I was like smiling what you wrote there. I have had lots of moments like that too , amongst them would be seeing shadows but in actual fact they are just cats .. this happened at work once. I hear scratches when in actual fact it's the cleaner working late. Many imagination run wild type of small scenarios ..

Haha , if I were you , I'd jump too .. that's actually a great story to relate to in future years as well. Another possibility would be are there any burglars .. hmmm .. runs wild , mind runs wild. Thanks for sharing this story.

Usually when this happens with me its one of my 3 cats. The new computer i bought a yr ago nov. has the power button on top corner edge of the pc tower. Many times they have stepped on it turning it offf and i thought my new computer had crashed. Many times ive been woke up to some thing they had stepped on the keyboard and played something. I also have a magic jack hooked up to my computer. I once woke to the magic jack saying "If youd like to place a call......." Then i see Miss Kitty stepping out from behind the screen. I only have one room so its not likely a prowler. But its still startling all the same. I try to keep somthing sitting as near the power button as possible so they dont try jumping up there. But every now and then it still happens. When i went on vacation i unplugged the computer because there are times when i left the house and came home to find the computer is on. Hummmm. And im sure i shut it off.

Wow, I am sure your kitties are looking for warmth, as I understand most kiddies like heights and things that are running for warmth. I can only imagine your puzzled feeling each time you find it on, knowing it was off. That would sort of keep me second thinking all the time too, wow but your kitties also may be missing you at the moment..LOL.. Maybe they feel if the computer is on that perhaps it will get you back up and maybe it is a sign of them wanting to play. How cute that you have your kitties..

I never sleep without a maglite style flashlight beside me and some kind of weapon under the mattress , When I hear something funny outside I wait sometime for him to go inside the room first so he gets the surprise not me , but I get tempted to go out and investigate too if something is really odd or different to my senses.

Pretty funny indeed. Yeah I would have never gone first. Unless he began to scream or something. This reminds me one time I was home alone as my son was away at school. He decided to surprise me with a visit. I was showering. Then I heard my alarm notifier say front door. I froze. I tried listening and no noise what so ever. I did not dear come out of the bathroom. So after a few minutes I did the sign of the cross and said, God if this is my last day, know I tried to be a good person. So I crept out of the bathroom and my son screams surprise. Oh my God I almost fainted.

Thanks gabs, funny thing last night before I climbed into bed, I immediately asked my boyfriend if he had turned off his PC as I was so tired and wanted to make sure nothing interrupted it. We both laugh recalling the moment, and glad it turned out well instead of perhaps true danger.

Oh my goodness, you both probably had fear going and then when you all found out what it was, laughed out loud...lol I know I would have. We have had actual people rob us as well as trying to steal my car one night. I think I shocked the robbers that night though. When I heard a noise outside it took me a second to realize it was my car door. So I yelled in the house to get someone else up, no one came out, so not to waste time I went out the front door.. Yep there they were trying to push my car to the street. Well, to their surprise, I started yellling at them, get the f*** away from my car and get a life.. lol I left the one door open so I yelled to get someone in the house to friggin wake up. Finally after the guys that were trying to steal my car ran off, then my boyfriend decided to show up to find out what I was yelling about. (he was in another room playing a game on his computer with head phones) That is what I thought was funny, after the robbers ran off he shows up see's what I was yelling about and took off across the yard to run after them AFTER they disappeared... Yes, I have woke up to sounds and I go investigate and no matter how stupid I feel after finding it wasn't anything to worry about, I will still get up and look the next time.. you just never know....

UGh.. betcha they never forgot about you to date. Yeah the headphones at times are not a good thing as something bad can happen but it is pretty funny that you did all that and he did not even notice. LOL

That's funny. I remember one night when I was a kid. In the middle of the night, someone (or something *shivers*) had opened up the piano and was banging on the keys! Totally like an eerie scene from a horror movie! It really scared the hell out of me. When I woke in the morning, I discovered that I had left the piano open, and the CAT jumped onto the keys and slept on top of the piano!!!!

I guess your apartment is haunted. When you apartment is haunted, your computer will on and run the program by itself. It was happened to my friends' apartment when they just moved in. The heater was on and adjusted to the highest temperature automatically. The oven was on too. They could hear the dragging sound of the chairs in the kitchen. When they came out form their bedroom, the furniture in the kitchen was really up-side-down. My friends arranged back the furniture, turned off the oven and adjusted back the temperature of the electric heater. After sleeping for a while, the same thing repeated again. When they complained to manager, the manager seemed knowing it earlier. They moved out with losing their rental deposits. Do you believe it or not? At first, I were not believed in it because it was exactly like those haunted movie. ha! ha! ha! Later, I found out the apartments were built on ex-cemetery area, in a very old map. There wasn't any reason for my friends to cheat me. Before they moved out, I had seen four of them to wait for each other then only they were dare to return to their apartment. It was happened in the America !

Haunted homes - Homes that get haunted by ghosts
Oh my gosh don't you even dare scare me with ghost stories.. now I am going to be on alert. The apartment I am in is in TN. We will be here until December 20th, as my boyfriend is doing a show out here for a month in a half. So I will be glad to be returning to my apartment in IL... Normally I am a very brave and courageous person but to be awaken by loud noises scare the day lights out of me... I do not think I could live even across the street from a cemetery, let alone know my home is built on what was one once... boo too scary for me.

Thanks God, it is not caused by intruders or bad person. Something like this happened to my husband and I. It was like 3:00 AM when we heard a sound. I sounds like alien spaceship when it is abducting people. We are so scared because previously we heard on the news about U.F.O sighting. We were really scared and we could not sleep. He wanted to look outside the window but I did not let him. I was scared that we will be abducted. The sound is like moving in circle. getting fainter then louder and then it stopped. We were thinking what was that sound. Then the next morning. I heard it again and I found out that it is the alarm or horn of our neighbor's car.

LOL, I could not help but laugh.. I mean it sounded pretty scary and I have had my share of really scary weird sounds thinking it was one thing and then it turned out to be another. But thank God you two were okay and you did right. Sometimes it is exactly like the movies, we hear these weird noises and we go directly into the face of danger. It is not about be courageous but being safe and smart. Glad it was the car sounds and not something else. As we would not have been myLot friends.

Personally this is probably one of the reasons I am Glad that my Computer is downstairs, and I sleep upstairs. But it would be a little scary to hear noises coming from somewhere that you know were not there when you went to sleep. I do not blame you for feeling a little scared, and Glad it turned out to be nothing serious.

I am one of those crazy people that will confront danger when there is something that scares me. I know that it is probably stupid to do something like that, but I feel that by confronting the danger I am actually protecting the rest of my family in a certain sense. I would hate to see something terrible happen to my children because I was afraid to open my bedroom door and see what was going on. Most of the time when I hear odd sounds it is actually my cats wrestling around in the living room.
• United States
13 Dec 10
At moments of possible danger I suppose many do just like the movies and confront head on without thinking. I agree with you that we must protect all family, especially children at all cost. Your cats wrestling has to be fun to see, hehehe.. funny how they cause noise and you are already use to it. Thanks for sharing.

For me it's not the computer, but the TV. I use the TV as an alarm clock everyday so I am used to suddenly waking up early in the morning because some loud TV talk. I try to put it in one particular channel where it's only talking heads to minimize the surprise, but once in a while, it opens up into a loud commercial that startles me. My heart goes pounding for a few moments before I realize that it was just the TV.

14 Dec 10
I suppose the startling of being awaken abruptly would scare anyone.. Wow how you have the TV set to wake you. I would not be able to be awaken by the TV as it would comfort me to sleep longer. But yeah the commercials volume at times are way louder then the settings we set so I can imagine you being frighten momentarily, which would wake you up on time for sure. Thanks for stopping by.

That was funny Its pretty hard for someone to wake me up in the middle of the night...so i wouldn't bother until a thief slips onto me by mistake I do watch horror movies but never had any nightmares...but i tend to think of some freaky stuff when odd things happen in and around. What would you do if you had noticed some fumes coming out of nowhere in your flat ?

Hi Bellapop, So true something about the dark and or the unknown that can really get us to think and somehow it is always related to scary things. Abrupt awakenings really frighten me to the point that my heart can race very fast. Maybe it is the suspense that gets us.
