Have you observed that so many kids are wearing specs now a days. Is it due too much pressure for reading which has an adverse effect on the growing visual system of the kid? Have you ever thought of any remedy for it?

My daughter was diagnosed as being near-sighted at the age of seven years old. I think that the reason that she has this problem is more highly correlated with the fact that both her father and myself are near-sighted than the fact that she has been pressured to read. Now, don't get me wrong, the child loves to read, but I honestly don't think that there would have been anything that Tom or myself could have done that would have kept her from becoming near-sighted.

In the past, kids wearing specs is caused by reading of books, because there's no tv back then. MOre than often, kids with specs are seen as someone smart. However with the introduction of tv, more kids are wearing specs because they are watching it within touching distance to the screen. As for now, kids wearing specs are caused by the long hours they spent in front of the computer playing games, and surfing the net. It has nothing to do with pressure of reading.

I do NOT believe for a moment that reading is what is affecting the eyesight of children. I do think that bad eye sight is getting caught more often because they are trying to see things that if they were working in a field wouldn't matter. So, education maybe directly discovering the need for vision correction, but I do not believe it is causing it.

I would think that it is far more likely that it is due to all the television and video game viewing rather than reading. I would think that reading in proper light would not have an adverse effect on the eyes. If you think about it back in the day when they only read by lanterns there were not as many people wearing glasses. But now that we have so much video and computer screens there are lots more glasses.

I guess this is due mainly from too much video games and use of the computer although I'm not sure, Considering my age and the amount of time I spend on my computer,I'm quite proud to say that I have not worn any kind of corrective eye wear in my whole life. Guess diet also plays a part in degenerative eye sight as well as genetic or hereditary factors. As for the remedy let's just leave that to the professionals. Have a nice day friend

I am also using specs from my class 10. It not due to mainly of study effect rather i will say it is due to the foods we are taking now a days, which can not give a proper strength to our eyes. Our parents are also highly educated, but they are not using specs. Also the widely use of computers affect the eye of teen ages now. Food control we can not do, it is a national issue. Government should take care of it. But personally we do some manual works in our daily life without computer some add some advantage to this problem.
