For me it is always that I try to take a deep breath and think about the things that are going to help me get through it in the most effective manner. You see, I've been trained in CPR and first aid and an important part of that training is that I need to realize that you can't get all in a tizzy about what is going on in emergency situations or you won't be able to adequately care for a person in an emergency situation.

It's difficult because no matter how cool headed a person is, they tend to lose it when it's something concerning them or someone related to them. As a third party, it's easier to remain cool than the one involved in it. Being level headed is part of our character and that's something which we can't really learn. It's either we have it or not.

I always take a big breath and survey the situation. Then I logically go through all of the situation and see what has to be done first - like what is most pressing. When I fell with my son I wanted to get all nerved out but I thought it all through and figured out how to get out of it!

For starters, the best way to stay cool during emergency situations is first to ask your self what you can do. Just pause, and get a deep breathe then, see what you can do.

Hello DoctorDidi! I can't manage to be cool in an emergency situation though. My daughter sometimes get ill and I really panic, good thing though is that mu husband seems to know how to be cool in an emergency situation. I don't know how he do it but I guess it's just the way he is, for every situation, he acts so logical, and always approach things as if it's ordinary and also takes action immediately. Cheers!

The best way to be prepared and cool in an emergency situation is to arm yourself with knowledge and know the basics of a particular situation, read books pertaining to first aid, poison antidotes jungle survival, home safety and security and things like that, I encourage my kids the same way my dad encouraged me to join scouting, the red cross youth and similar organizations, also take up and learn any form of martial arts, it does not only teach you how to fight but more important to be calm, it teaches you how how to react and act quick and how to avoid getting into trouble. Again the best antidote to panic in my opinion is knowledge, have a safe day

In an emergency i am never the one that keeps cool i am always rushing around everywhere trying to do things i remember once when my dad cut his hand open i was all around everywhere phoning a ambulance getting people too take him down hospital plus when he was in there i was really worried so i am not really the right person for a emergency.I also hate being in hospitals no matter how much they clean them up i still think they look like horrible grimy place with thousands of bacteria and bugs in there.
