Question: Is It Ethical?

United States

Okay, so some of you know that my sister is looking to get rid of her 3 cats, and she said if I can't find a home for them she's going to bring them to a shelter...so I asked the rescue where I volunteer if they would be able to take them. They told me that can't take them because when they take cats from the humane society, they get about 120 dollars per cat, and if they took my sister's they would only get about $20 for them. My question is, would it be wrong of me to offer them 300 dollars to take the 3 cats, or is that like a bad bribe? Ethical or not? I don't want them to think that the only way I would ever donate to them was when I needed a favor, but I really care about these cats. And HONESTLY 300 dollars is going to hurt me, but I don't want them to end up at a shelter (I know they would be euthanized). So really this would really be the only opportunity I could donate 300 dollars to them. But back to my question, would it be ethical or morally wrong to offer them 300 dollars to take the cats?

It's absolutely ethical, and if you can afford to do it, and if you want to do it, why not? Better than letting them be euthanized, which is probably what would happen if you let your sister take them to a shelter.

I think nothing is wrong with that. If you think that's the best thing to do don't feel guilty about it.

I don't see anything wrong with that. Around here if we want to give a cat to a shelter we need to pay them about $100 per cat to do so anyways. So if it were unethical our shelters wouldn't be asking us for money when we need to put a cat up for adoption. I hope it works out.

Simply place an add in the local paper. FREE CATS TO GOOD HOME. Someone will show up for the cats.

No, totally unethical, and don't do it at all. You might find other shelter are free to take cats like orphan, would you? They should be some sort of charity organization to help those homeless animals. That should be the one you take your cats to.

It is good thing to care about animals, like cats, as you mentioned, it is good thing to offer your service, if you really like to care those cats, you have to bargain. and try to solve matter. You better know the situation, if she feel or not.
