Liberal Group's Ad Rips Obama on Tax Cut Deal

The rancorous rift between President Barack Obama and the increasingly dissatisfied left is ratcheting up in the furor over Obama’s proposed tax-cut deal with Republicans. And one group is tossing the president’s campaign rhetoric right back at him. The Progressive Change Campaign Committee has released a TV ad, titled "Obama's Conscience," set to air in Washington, D.C., and two Indiana metropolitan areas that rips Obama for appearing to break his promise not to continue all the Bush-era tax cuts, Politico reports. The commercial features Obama saying of Sen. John McCain at an April 2008 rally in Indiana during the presidential campaign: "He’s promising four more years of tax cuts for CEOs. But George Bush's economic policies still offend my conscience and they still offend yours,” he says, receiving cheers. The screen then goes dark, and this text appears: “If Obama won’t fight for his promise, Congress needs to.” http://www.newsmax.com/InsideCover/Obama-taxcuts-Democrats-ad/2010/12/09/id/379504?s=al&promo_code=B473-1 I do not understand why the Liberals/Democrat are upset and /or surprises at the tax break continuing. We all know Obama is one of the rich who benefit from this tax break. Obama is an obvious elitist who does not care about the lower or middle class Americans. All his campaign promises were just just empty words to garnish votes as is typical of politicians. So can anyone tell me why this recent uproar about broken campaign promises???

The broken campaign promise issue is really just rhetoric. The real thing that sticks in the craw of the liberal left is that they won't get to punish those mean old rich people. They are so in love with the redistribution of wealth idea that they can't bear to think that they won't be able to grab more of the rich people's money. So what do they do? They whine like petulant children and say "If we can't raise taxes on the rich, we'll just block the bill and raise taxes on everybody!" It proves once again that the democrat party is all about raising taxes. They rail against the greed of CEO's while being driven by greed themselves. They want to take more money from people so they can have it to spend on whatever they want. It also proves that they aren't interested a lick in compromise. This bill isn't a victory for either party. The republicans aren't getting everything they want but that doesn't matter to the democrats. They don't want to give an inch. They don't want the republicans to get anything they want. This bill is the first true compromise since Obama took office and the democrats are fighting it tooth and nail. So what does that tell you about which party is truly willing to compromise? What amazes me is how they are referring to it also. They keep saying how it gives the rich a tax cut. In reality, it doesn't "cut" anything. The whole idea is to keep the tax rates as they are now, simply not make any changes. It doesn't give anybody anything that they don't have now. Also, referring to it as if the bill "gives" anyone a break is pretty condescending if you ask me. It's not the government's money to give. They are calling it theirs but it's people's money that the government is trying to take. The republicans simply want everyone to keep more of the money they make and not have to give more of it to the government. Think about it. It's NOT the government's money to "give". I've said it before and I'll say it again. The real issue is not taxation. The REAL issue is spending. It doesn't matter how much we give to the government if they continue to waste it. They could tax the rich 90% of their income and what good would it do if the idiots in Washington keep spending everything we give them and more. The fact is that if we don't make them live within their means, just like we all have to, they will continue to drive America's economy into the ground. If they don't get spending under control, if they don't balance the budget and continue to balance the budget from here on out, America's economy WILL collapse. It's only a matter of time.

I tell you the truth I am little shocked at just how bad they have turned on him. After all...he has been their golden boy. Is the tax break law perfect? No. But I do think it is at least a decent compromise to get something done. I am not an obama fan. But I don't see the point in bashing him needlessly. Yes he said while he was running that he was going to get rid of the tax cuts for the rich. But he also said he wanted the two sides to come together and compromise to get things done. Do I think Obama would rather get rid of the tax cuts for the rich and fullfill that promise? Yes. But he also realizes to get something done on this he has to compromise with the republicans. I think he has TRIED to foster compromise between the parties. But they have not listened. We actually finally get a compromise and the libs are up in arms. It seems one side or the other is always in a revolt over something not being exactly what they want. But congress just wants it their way or hte high way (both sides). Which has been the biggest problem we have had with congress for last oH I don't know 10 years or so. And it keeps getting worse. Compromise is a dirty dirty word to congress. It furstrates me to no end. Can't they just all act like adults and do there jobs.

Actually, President Obama hasn't been the "golden boy" of some on the far left. Heck, I've been arguing here for nearly two years that he isn't even all that liberal! I totally agree with you, I think in this case the President is doing what he has to do. Someone has to be the adult here and accept that nobody gets everything they want all the time! You and I don't as adult citizens and your kids and my grandkids don't even ALWAYS get their own way, now do they...lol? The simple fact is, despite how every few years one party or the other will have what appears to be a huge victory which will make them think, or at least ACT like they think they have this humongous mandate to do whatever they want, the country is pretty much split down the middle. Those of us who aren't politicians are closer to the center than to the extreme left or right. Annie

So much for your claims that President Obama is s liberal "Socialist"...lol! In all seriousness, I wouldn't want to have to make a decision on this issue. It's obvious there are members of both parties who don't believe in compromise no matter what but it's even more obvious something has to be done and someone will be angry no matter what happens with the tax cut vote. My first thought, especially when i heard that one woman say she was in the top 2% and thought her taxes should be higher was..."Ok lady, you first, no need to wait for a law...just send it in here: https://www.pay.gov/paygov/forms/formInstance.html?agencyFormId=23779454 Anyone who is actually complaining their taxes are too low should either put up or shut up. They are all perfectly free to send in their money to the IRS with out needing a tax code to do it. the IRS offers refunds on over payments, but they also don't complain when you don't accept the refund. They even have a specific line in a tax return that says, "amount you WANT refunded to you". So anyone who actually has the idiocy to complain their own taxes are too low, what are you waiting for? Send in more voluntarily.

Some talk show host remarked that if the conservatives had a prez that got as much done in 23 months as this prez has, they'd be singing his praises. No matter what Mr. Obama does, the libs won't be happy and I hope he is starting to realize that. He's been an adult about this tax thing and compromised to get something done and I respect him for that. I think he's allied with some very dangerous people that will never be happy until gov't controls every aspect of our lives--leaving their own fortunes intact, naturally. I do hope he makes it through his time in office relatively unscathed and wiser.

As I see it liberals want to pay more taxes, and especially in light of their hatred of President Bush, they want all the Bush tax cuts to go away, so everyone pays more taxes. If they cannot have that, they at least want to see the more wealthy portion of American paying more taxes. When it comes to their hatred of the rich, it reminds you of a little kid screaming in rage. What the left sees, and do not like, is their great and glorious muslim, socialist, progressive leader so quickly compromising their position with the Republicans. What they may not be considering is that obama is starting to think about election time, and he needs to start now putting on the phony front to make him more acceptable to the people. We must always remind ourselves that obama is nothing but a lying phony!

He was put here to be the fall guy. I just didnt think it would be over this. The democrats that are opposed are not doing their job. If I cant have it all, I dont want any - is not a good attitude. This is the first thing I think he did right. He is compromising.

I thought the compromise is what we need more of so we can find the middle ground and not have our country go to one extreme to the other all the time. Also I think him making it so their are tax cuts going to green tech is a good thing to help motivate companies to either develop green non oil reliant tech or manufacture/ use green tech is a good thing as we should take these techs and realize they are the future. We need to press forward with these technologies so that when other countries want to go green like we are trying and slowly going to we will be able to go we will help you for some $$$$$$$$. Actually Obama has kept quite a few of his promises some of them have changed due to the info he got on lets say what was going on in the Iraq and Afghanistan Police Actions.
