In our time now, books are being made into movies because a lot of people are not interested with reading book which the book came from. There are a lot of books that is made to a movie, for example some books of Nicholas Sparks. But in your own opinion which do you prefer, reading the book or watching the movie?

I'll be honest, with books, you have a lot more time to tell a story and to delve into the characters more. Movies are all about putting something exciting on the screen a lot of the time and a lot of the story development can get lost. Now do not get me wrong, there are a lot of good story development in movies. However, it does lose something as compared to the story development that you would find in books. Of course, my problem is that I do read the book a lot of the time before I watch the movie adaptation. Therefore, everything in the movie is going to fall a bit flat and I'm going to compare it to the book obviously, even if I try not too. The book can explain things a bit better, convey things somewhat better than a movie, because there are things a book can do that a movie cannot. Of course, the same applies for the other way around as well.

I really understand what you're talking about because I read the book first before watching the movie so I can understand more the plot. I think theres no mistake when you look at what we are doing because it is normal. The book was published first before doing the movie.

movies are much easier than books but storywise, books tend to be better because movie adaptation of anything were usually bad, they dont follow the storyline and directors do a lot of unnecessary changes.

Movies are not necessarily always bad when adapted from a book. There have been a few movies which have been better than the books. You just cannot blame directors for making changes in movie adaptations. Movies have certain aspects which differ a lot from the books and hence, in order to make a good movie, some changes are required to be made.

Generally speaking, for me, the movie is a disappointment after reading the book. There are exceptions, but rarely.

I have always preferred the book to movies. I like imagining what the author is describing. I have seen many movies that were based on a book and a lot of the time the movie leaves things out or does a certain scene differently. I like doing both, but prefer the books.

Yes, and besides you can really benefit alot from reading a book. I love it when I read a novel then I see whats happening to the story whenevr I think about it. The book that I really find hard to imagine is Harry Potter, the story is very broad thats why I stopped reading it.

Oh. We have the opposite strategy. Arent you going to be busy when you have wacthed the movie then you're going to read the book? I think its quite boring because you already know whats happening in the movie then you keep searching for a certain type in the book. Arent you going through a rough time doing that?

Actual movies are really different from old books, so, I think that and old book can't inspire a movie. The books that are written in these days, have more actual topics, so I think most of them can be made to a movie. In my opinion, is much more better to read the book, you spend more time reading the book than watching a movie, so if you really want to know any writer, you should read the book.

Actually some books are written many years ago, like Narnia which was made into a movie just the past years. I really do not look at the age of the book as long as the story is very interesting and I dont mind who the writter is because I myself is a writter too. We all are a writter in here.

ho glamgirldoll, for me I love reading and watching movies. Sometimes, my past time when I am bored I read books and then when I'm tired reading I will skip to movies. Maybe lot of people fine reading a boring thing but it depends. So true that there are lots of books now are being made into movies and for me it is much better to watch it rather than reading the story of that certain movies.

I love reading books as much as I love watching movies but there are some points that you really wanna read. It also depends on the person whether he ia a book worm or not. People these days aren't into books thats why some book shops are forced to mark down their prices.

Personally, I always prefer books to movies. I’ve seen many books being converted to movies but somehow, the story does not remain the same…directors take the creative liberty of interpreting the spirit of the story or characters in their own way. In most cases, I’ve always liked the book more than the movie. Also, the books allows you to imagine many things…and you can ponder over the situations and have your own visual images…the movies leave nothing to imagination. Then again, you can always carry the book with you, even bed times…movies demand our complete attention.

Yes, I see what you mean. Thats what Im thinking from the start but it seems that only few people value the books now. I think they should better find a book and read it for a while.

I prefer watching the movie. Whenever I read books, I'll get bored out and will even fall asleep. Movies, in my opinion, show more detail and illustrate the exact picture of what's going on, whereas books have no pictures, only words, which will only attract certain people.

While you read books you discover what the character look like because if the author of the book is good then he will describe the character that everyone will describe in a way and will love it.

Hi glamgirl, Movies appeal more to people than books. Many people do not like to read books, but most people watch movies. I love to watch movies and I love to read books. So I do not really care that much. But if given a choice, I guess I would pick books ahead of movies.

I love to do both. I am a bookworm since I was in high school, I started reading those pocketbooks for teens and my choices of books expanded as I reach college. Until now, I am already a mother of two wonderful kids, I still find time to grab a book despite the hectic schedule. I also love watching movies, be it an original or based from books. But before i watch the movie that has been based from a book, I see to it that I have read the book first so i'll be able to make some comparison.

I do the same thing, chocobuko. But sometimes it is difficult to find those books which are not so popular. There have been occasions when a book became popular only after it has been made into a film. In those cases I do not have much choice but to watch the film first.

if you ask me personally more comfortable watching the movie, because if you read me like lazy to read it but if you watch a movie we can see, hear and understand what the content of the film. different case by reading the book, we must be cautious in reading if we want to understand.

Actually it is really relaxing and entertaining to read a book, maybe you should try doing that some other time. And you can fully understand every details of the story when you read the book first rather than watching the film 1st.

I'd rather see something action heavy on the big screen then read about it in a book. However, I think more complex types of stories work much better in prose form then they do in movies. I really enjoy books by Haruki Murakami, and I don't think most of his books would make very good movies at all, since how they are written is so important. However, I personally got more enjoyment out of the Lord of the Rings movies than I did the books.

I'd prefer reading the book than watching the movie. Some movies that are adapted from books are sometimes disappointing because some best parts are skipped and some are changed. Well, just me.

It usually depends on which version I've seen first. If I've read the book first, and liked it, I probably won't care for the changes in a movie. And if I've seen the movie first and liked it, then I probably would like the differences in the book. Even knowing that the book was written first. Not that I always only like one version. Sometimes I like both for different reasons. But, I certainly hope that books aren't made into movies just because people aren't interested in reading books. I hope movie makers also think of readers as their audience. That they make movies for the people who read the books, not just the ones who didn't. So that people who liked the books can see the characters come to life. I've read Jane Eyre thousands of times, and I'm also eagerly awaiting the newest movie. And, I hope the people who made the movie weren't just making it for people who aren't interested in the book. I hope they also made it for people who loved the book, and who would love to see the story come to life.

glamgirldoll as so many movies destroy a lot of the story in a book I prefer to read the book first then see or not see the movie. I love to read and read many more books than waste money on some trashy movies.I am not an either or person so I read books and see movies too occasionally.

I much prefer the book. To make a movie, parts of the book have to be omitted. Also, sometimes the director has his idea of what the author of the book was trying to say, but this may not be correct. If the director doesn't like the way the book ended, he may be able to change it. I like the original.

I love reading the book more. Because it's more detailed and since i love reading. I can really feel my imaginations working when im reading. Although i should say that watching the movie is more convenient.

I think movies are so much better and they are way more entertaining aNd it helps you get a physical sense of seeing what's really going on first hand
