between an apple cobbler and an apple pie? I have made lots of apple pies in my life. I first ate them in the US and got a wonderful recipe that tastes delicious. I ate apple cobbler once, also at he US. But now when I see recipes here, I find something that has nothing to do with what I ate. The apple cobbler doesn´t have dough underneath. Besides that, what is the difference? I seem to have eater a mixture of bread crumbs and apples with spices. What is that called. Help and share, please!

Apple pie has a flakey, pastry crust top and bottom. An apple cobbler has no bottom crust (as you mentioned) but can have a pastry, cake or crumb topping. There are lots of variations. The more important question, is which is better. To find out, you and several friends should bake some of the various forms. Then have a taste test. Remember not to eat dinner first, otherwise you might not make it through all entries. Get back to us with the results...lol.

No problem! Plan the party for March! Instead of March Madness being a term for basketball (here anyway), it could be about baskets of apples!

It´s a very good idea, catdla! But there is a small problem with that: I´m trying to shed 20 pounds. And I must do it by February. I bought the most beautiful swimming suit online and asked them to send it to a friend´s house as she lives in the US and there´s no delivery fees there. She id coming in February and I MUST be slim.

It made my mouth water too and as I am stuck at the airport for the next few hours, you have time to start making it and have it ready for when I land

It's hard to go by what you see because to a lot of people, cobbler is basically a pie made in a casserole dish instead of a pie pan. The real difference is, pie has a flaky, but flat bottom crust (sometimes a top crust too). Cobbler is made with a crumbly top crust, but no bottom crust.

I guess that´s the answer I needed. And your answer plus MsDianit´s about the apple "crumble" helped me a lot. I have never made apple cobbler. Is it as good as an apple pie? I will also try my hand at the apple crumble. I think that that was what I had once. Thanks a lot!

It kind of depends on where in the U.S. you eat it. I've seen both with and without bottom crusts, and the biggest difference with those with the bottom crust from a pie is that the bottom crust isn't COOKED first most of the time for cobbler. I've also seen cobbler where it was almost a cake with lots of fruit in it, peaches, apples or black berries most of the time. I honestly think those are more nearly a "cheat" than a real cobbler tho. Cobblers don't have a "crumb" type topping, like an apple crumble, those are often called apple crisps as well (nothing to do with crisps in England guys) Generally speaking, I think most cobblers have a thicker crust on top than people want on a pie... Mind you, if I ate one, it would have to be home made so I know what they put in it, because most commercial fillings have corn starch in them.

Hiya margi, It sounds like Apple Crumble that is an Apple Pie sort of anyway with no dough base on it. You can add spicy thing to the apple mixture as well I suppose. I would not mind eating some right now we are at least eight degrees below centigrade. Extreme cold makes you hungry too (grin) Apple Crumble when I made it used to have layers of mixed cake like mixture with layers of Butter too. You could also add raisins to it as well.

The swimming suit will be here. My friend already received it and phoned me telling me that it´s awesome. I´m not so sure about my slimming though.

Hiya margi, Try to not to worry too much about that. Worry and stress increase Belly Fat by the look of it. However you would have to be worrying all Day about it to get like that so just take it easy. Just eat a bit less around January and you should be fine. Says me blah, blah. No but I hope you can get into it. You don´t look to me like you need to lose any weight from the Photo I saw you in.

Me again I was going to add that the mixture is like pastry but not rolled out. Don´t how to explain that one too good as I have not been able to make it in ages either so I tend to forget. What I have not forgot is the taste of it simply delicious. I hope you get your Swimming Suit in time.xxx

Oh I don't know, I think of a cobbler as more of a cake. A pie is it's own thing. That's the technical explanation. :D

i thought all cobblers have a crusted bottom. guess i dont know much either. i figure cobbler has more juiciness, like a fruit soup persay on a crust. where pie is more a solid. with crust.
