This year we're not doing much at my house. Most of our holidays will be spent visiting the family. 2 weekends left to go & I've yet to pull any of the decorations out. This weekend will start the festivities so I won't even have much time to. I just don't have the drive to rearrange the house so there's a place for a tree, pack up everything on the shelves & mantle & pull out the decorations. We've done most of the shopping but you couldn't tell the holidays were upon us at the house.
I guess I'm feeling a little shcroogish this year.
Are you into the whole decorating & everything?

Nope, not this year. I really don't have any Christmas spirit this year. I bought a little Charlie Brown Christmas tree a couple of weeks ago, only because I thought they were so cute and I do have that in my picture window in the living room but that's it.
I'm also making all my traditional baked goodies that I give to everyone because I don't want to spoil anyone else's holiday spirit but I'm just not into it this year.
I had surgery on my spine three months ago and, since that time, I've undergone a rather deep transformation. I had a lot of time to think about what is important to me like who I really am, how I got here and where I'm going. I have things now that I have to do to get my life more on-track and that has made Christmas a rather moot point to me, at least this year.
So, you're not alone.

I know exactly what you mean. One of the things I realized while reassessing my life was that I was always the one doing all the decorating/rearranging. The most my husband ever did was to bring in the tree and set it up in the stand. The rest was left completely up to me, including taking the tree down and getting rid of it. I simply will not do it all myself anymore which means that, as long as I'm with my husband, there will be no decorating in this house... ever.

I really enjoy decorating although not as much as I did when my children were at home. I'm alone now and have scaled back a lot. I decorate my fireplace mantel with lights and garland, hang wreaths in the house and on my front door and put big bows on the pillars of my front porch. I've switched from a 6' tree to a 2' tree (artificial, of course), too, and my kitchen and bathroom linen are adorned with snowmen, cardinals and trees.
I don't start decorating till the 18th and everything comes down on the 1st. I don't know why people do it at Thanksgiving or even before, don't they get tired of it before Christmas?! I find that my 2 week decorating window allows just the right amount of anticipation and wind-down.
I'm feeling a bit scroogish this year, too. My sons won't be visiting and I'm by myself except for my dogs and my dad and stepmother two counties away.

I wish I could be! Like you..It's a lot of work. Especially since Christmas is right around the corner, it's almost not worth it at this point. My sister actually just threw away (after last year) and gave away the majority of our decorations. All we have now is a wreath, and some tree ornaments (maybe 5 or 10 in total). No tinsel, no stockings, nothing fancy at all. So, I put up the wreath on the door and put some thingymabobs on our little Charlie Brown Christmas tree, and that's about it for me. Plus, it's much easier to take down, after the season ends or holiday ends or whatever you want to call it. I envy the people whoa re so motivated and prepared to go all-out. But it's gotta be a pain the butt to take all that down. Minimalism is in, now, didn't you hear? LOL

I can actually say that even though money is tight with the economy. This will be the best christmas ever for us. This is the first christmas that we will be celebrating as a family. My daughter will be 6 months on Christmas Day. She is our gifts this year. My husband and I are truly blessed to have her. I can't wait for many christmas to come.

It's been kinda rough for lots of people this year.
We have our tree up but like you we had to move furniture so we had a place to put it.
There's not a lot of presents this year which is OK since it's only the 2 of us anyways

I can always seem to get into the spirit of decorating for the holidays. it gives me a good feeling. some people may need a bit more motivation to decorate. @SilverKing (1003)

Well for decorating for the holidays I try to do what I can to make it festive around our house.I am trying to cut back this year due to all the money that I owe from college and will try to have a set limit on the lower scale of less than 500 this year.Other previous years I went a little overboard and spend several thousand on gifts and decorations and really was unhappy to see my credit card statement when it arrived in January.I love Christmas and spending time with my family and friends and really need the time of from my bust schedule that normally leaves me with zero days to sleep in past 7:00 am.

We do it every year, it's a family tradition. It's a fun day when the whole family comes close on a sunday afternoon and goes out to eat and then comes back to decorate the whole house. I do realize it's a lot of work, but come on, it's pretty and has all the christmas-y spirit. We usually do that in november still.
Although, if you haven't decorated your place yet, might as well just wait for next year, because buddy, I hate to tell you that but, christmas is next week

Well, I don't think you are alone in this. I've heard many express the same thoughts. I, myself, am right there with you. Not depressed about any of it, just not really into it this year (or for the past couple of years either) I don't think we have to force ourselves to fit into the picture of a happy holiday if we're just not feeling it. Unless, of course, you have children at home. Then, I think, we do need to try and get into the swing of things, for their sakes. Luckily, there are no small children in my household now. I've done all that and now I can coast through the season with or without the festivities.
My focus now is more on the spiritual side of it. We have a lot of church activities this time of year. Our small community goes all out at Christmas time with a parade to set things in motion. Then there are some kinds of activities going on throughput the season. There's enough of the glitz and glitter of the season all around us so I don't feel like I need to go all out at home. We do have a few lights up and a couple of our favorite things set out... like my nativity collection and my daughter's snowman collection. That's lt at my house. Oh, and lots of scented candles sitting around. That's something that will help to get you in the spirit, maybe. It's hard to smell the scent of Christmas in the air and not feel just of twinge of that old familiar spirit.

I don't think it's lack of christmas spirit, I'll happily pass around the boiled custard & rum milkshakes & whistle a christmas tune
. It's more of a lack of a drive to decorate. I just don't feel like putting all that effort into rearranging , packing , unpacking & dragging out that big tree, getting all the lights to work , yada yada yada... Then turn around in a couple weeks & do it all again.
I have a teenager, she's helped decorate my mothers & all the houses we'll be visiting will be decorated. We won't even be home much ( except when we get home from work late in the evening )until after the holidays. The weekends are booked. So why spend so much time decorating there?
