U can imagine a Island with some 30-50 people living there or u can imagine a island like u hav seen in the movie 'Cast Away'.
But Can u image a island in the middle of pacific ocean, with just 2miles of length and the island just for a Runway of length 2743meters and When Seen from Satellite, might look like a Aircraft Carrier!
The Answer is yes..
Its not an aircraft carrier but its an Island and the name is Johnston Atoll. Located at North Pacific oceans about 1400Kms east of Hawaii.
It was used by the US military to perform Nuclear test and other marine operations until 2005. The Runway was also used my US Air force for refueling and other secret Special exercises.
After 2005 the Island was closed and made a Chemical disposal Area and now is administered under United States Fish and Wildlife Service.
The Island and its Airport is closed (with X marks on Runway) and Warning Signboards are put up, Except for some emergency Landings for the Aircrafts Passing over Pacific with direct Authorized permit from US Defense and none such reports hav been recorded yet.
It is said that only a few Special Armed personals are at the atoll to gaurd it (None identified) and some say in 2009 Johnston Atoll was proclaimed by President George W. Bush and was made a part of Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monument.
Ah.. wat do u think? Do u want to go see that island?

I have been to see some islands in the Pacific Ocean that airlines fly to like Hawaii, Fiji, French Polynesia, the Cook Islands and Samoa. Seeing the photo of Johnston Island it does look like an aircraft carrier. It is an island that has been polluted and totally ruined. It sounds like dangerous things have been performed on it like nuclear tests and secret exercises. Any airline that arrived there because of an emergency would be shocked. It sounds totally off limits for anyone except the people that work there from time to time. I love visiting tropical islands but that one sounds horrible.

Oh yeah, thats a pretty nice shaped island. There are actually a tonne more of these islands out in the middle of the pacific, hundreds of miles away from other land.
Look around the Phoenix atolls, around Fiji, the Cook Islands, French Polynesia, etc. Lots of these cool islands. I'd love to live on a deserted Island, the tranquility would be enough motivation alone.
