Home sweet home at last! We're living in our own home.

At last we have transferred to our own home today. For the past 6 years, from the time my husband and I started living together we've rented 6 different apartments. Living in someone else's place is not a nice feeling because there's a sense of guilt every time we pay rent, when in fact we have a place of our own. Has anyone been in our position? What have you done so far, or are you still in this situation? What are your plans?

congratulations for your you getting in your own home ^^ you must have worked hard for it ^^ i always wondered why parents hated the rented place we had to live in,after our grandparents kicked us out. mom had swore she wouldn't feel satisfied until she is in our own home, she doesn't wanna die living on rent. now i totally understand what she meant, this guilt feeling you told,so i guess that was normal and it must feel great to have a place you can call your own home and well, enjoy building it further ^^ as i think its really a joyful feeling decorating and cleaning something you own ^^

You are exactly right. The feeling is so heavenly, especially now that I feel so complete. I just had a baby and a month after we transferred to our own home. What more can I ask. I just wish for good health and togetherness forever.

Congrats, this is a good news. Yes, living at a rented place and not in one's home does places some restrictions and I can understand your joy at moving in your own home.

When renting you have to adjust to your unpleasant landlady most of the time. It felt like you are living in a place to please someone. Your will is never an option.

i used to rent (usually a single room or a studio-type pad) for many years before i finally had the chance to get my own place. it does feel great when you get to have your own place after living and renting one after another. there's just the simple joy and total freedom--you can decorate whenever and however way you like it, expand the place (if there's extra money and space), paint it with the exact color that suits you, and most importantly, there's no landlord/landlady to hover over you every time rental's about to come up. and yes, you do not need to wait for days or weeks (even months) for the owner to fix something in the house when there's a need to. so i understand about your sentiments about living in a rented place. there's plenty of restrictions and, yes, you can't make permanent decorations or fixtures however much you want to, lol. so, congratulations, ip, for finally getting your own place--and happy decorating!

I like the idea of painting the wall according to our taste and mood. Our first night was so amazing. I had a quality rest last night. I have a strong feeling that this home will give us good luck and blessing. :)

In between homes we were in an apartment for about 2 months. Wasn't fun having to move twice, but at least it was just a short term thing. We were so crammed in that apartment - 5 people, 3 fish and 2 cats!

The building where i am staying is 71 years old and all the flats including mine are rented and we pay a measely rent of 6.5 dollars per month.I have been living here for the last 65 years, eversince my birth. Now our landlord, the owner, is planning to re-develop the entire building by handing it over to a builder. Once it is done thenwe will get a much bigger flat with all the modern amenities free of cost. The only thing is that taxes will rise tremendously for which the builder will give us a corpus fund which when put into a fixed deposit scheme can give us sufficient monthly interest to pay the taxes. It is still a long way off, maybe 2 or 3 years still. In the meanwhile we will continue to stay here cheaply. You are lucky to have your own house but how much mortgate is it for or have you bought it out of your savings?

Our mortgage is just a $100 a month. I applied for a loan through Pag-ibig. This is government facilitated benefit of every Filipino. With Pag-ibig we contribute a minimal amount every month. Then when you have contributed for at least 2 years you can then apply for a loan. You can also get a retirement benefit when you reach retirement age.

Well I don't have such thing in my life but my girl family does. They been moving a lot since my girl is small. It is bad for children and younger kids as they don't understand why they have to move from one home to another.finally, the family got a nice home and it fits so well into the picture :)

I dont like the feeling moving a lot and I think most of the girl like a stable house to live, that's your home you share it with all of your families and you can decorate rooms you and your husband like.

ip right now living here in this very very tiresome retirement center the most wonderful feeling would be for my son to get a really great job and save enough money for the two of us once nore to share a two bedroom apt as we will never be able afford the million dollars most homes here cost. so that is my fondest wish, glad for you you can afford a house of your own most of us here in California can not as we are not millionaires.

Hoping to get a place of my own too. I've been living in an apartment for the last year and it doesn't bode well for me. I feel I have to tiptoe around the place for fear of breaking something and angering the management. In the future, I dream of large mansion and seven, highly trained butlers to cater to my every whim lol :)

Yes, it is nice to live in one's own house. Paying rent is really a burden. There is the thinking that you should have bought something every time you pay rent. Besides if you are in your home, you can fix it whenever you like. Unlike in rented house where you have to permit it from the owner before you nail something on the wall.

My husband and I spent the first six years of our relationship in that position. When our daughter was born she allowed the two of us to live with her for less money than typical rent was so that we would be able to save our money such that we would be able to buy a house of our own eventually. We were able to make that dream a reality on February 12, 2008 when we closed on our own house. It took us a while to move in, but I wouldn't trade the experience of living in our own house for the world.

I have been a very stable person as I lived in my home for 21 years. 5 years ago I moved in with my boyfriend and we are very happy. I hope not to be moving any time soon, but you just never know. Congrats on your new home, many blessings to you and your husband.
