An Unkown Place and Nothing About It Seems Familiar... What Would You Do?

Hi Mylotters, I had a bizarre nightmare last night. I was stranded at some place on this planet and the people were humans no doubt but they did not understand my language. Neither did I theirs. It is a dream at end and that is okay. But the fact is that this can happen to us in the world where there are so many different cultures, languages and other differences. So Let us assume you are at some place that is totally unknown to you. The people, the language, everything. How would you react? Cheers, theSids.

That's scary, imagine how they would react when they see you. You don't know if they are friendly or not. Maybe try hard to be friendly. Use sign language to communicate, as in small understandable gestures.

Hi juneevee "...how they would react when they see you..." Trust me, that was the scary part I thought they would just roast me or even put me in boiling oil and mummify me. But I feel that is not going to happen as I am not moving out to a distant and unknown place and that should save my soul. But still, if anything like this happened, your advice is good - use sign language and in small understandable gestures

I would shut down . and then I would try to disappear, not to be noticed until I could make it back home. And if I couldn't make it, I would Just disappear.

ummm...difficult one sid... i think i will try to speak in the sign language ..like the dumb and deaf do...if the stay is for few hours..only few things like the food to eat or water etc..can easily be enacted...but if the stay is for long then it will be bit difficult...becoz...then u will need to learn some words....and if the stay is permanent..then i will find out some books etc...to learn the language...

Hi eshaan, The sign language is my best bet too. At least there are somethings that I can assume would be the same all the world over... something for food and water. I would not prefer staying there for long too... I would miss my people back here and I know some of them would be really in search of me... back.

is hard to say how i would react, since i'm not in this situation. though i do remember how i felt when i was in Greek and very few people knew english.. i mean i tried to talk to them, but we were mostly talking through 'hands' lets say.. meaning we were just showing what we wanted to say... so it wasn't 'bad' at all, i actually quite enjoyed it.

Hi ellaangelus, Yes, it might happen with people who are more adventurous and on the move. I appreciate that you enjoyed the Gestures and could communicate

First of all, I would get very excited. I really wanted to be in that kind of situation. It will really test my interaction skills. hahaha... But the second reaction after that would be difficult because that will depend on how they will react towards me. If they seem to be hostile, then that would be scary? I will just try to avoid any contact and run as I have never ran before... If they are friendly, then I would gladly interact with them and make sure to learn their language so that we will understand each other. And maybe, I will try to stay there longer to learn more about their culture. If they are a bit snobbish and don't mind you at all, this would be great. I feel challenged in some way on how to break the language barrier and maybe learn a thing or two bout their language then off I go to where ever I must go... :D

Hi doggydimon, If they seem to be hostile, then that would be scary? That is what is my fear too... they have shown such horrible things in many movies and I am scared For the language barrier many have proposed - use of sign language. Let us see if ever in such a situation... how this would help for real...

Hi sids, it happens to me too sometimes. For me, maybe I'll just be myself. Somehow or rather, I like to have these types of dreams. Sometimes dreams signify something and they are there for us to decode it.

Hi JudgeIronFist, At last I found someone who said - "Sometimes dreams signify something and they are there for us to decode it". I too am a believer in this and many a times I have been thankful to my dreams. But many people differ and say it is just a coincidence or anything shaping up in my head

Hi sids, sorry i missed many of your discussions as because I was so sick last two days. now to the point. If I were an unmarried jung lady definetely I would enjoy the new situation. I will spent time to study them. I will teach them whatever I know. and I hope there will be small children. so I will play with them. I will help the busy mothers to care for their children.

Oh I am so sorry john... it is better that you recovered sooner and there is still some time to do shopping for the children as it is Christmas time. Hope you enjoy your time now in better health. That is interesting. Yes, it would be difficult to start with but soon I know with love and affection they would accept the stranger and then you can mingle and play around with the kids and help the busy moms too

So Let us assume you are at some place that is totally unknown to you. The people, the language, everything. How would you react? I would be very patient and try really hard to find a way to interact some way. I have been known to interact with hand motions and speaking with small words. I would not be freaked in any way as I find that I am very friendly. I also believe that sometimes with a bit of astute thinking we can get through many situations.

Hi hardworking, I must say you have a great presence of mind and yes, you have a traveler in you - something like the discoverers of new places have in them Yes, we must be calm and not scared over the fact that we are in a strange place... there are ways all around us and it is just a calm thinking that should show us the right way

Hmmm well first thing that I would do is to be patient and calm down, act like I do know something hehe...then maybe I will look for a shop that is selling a dictionary just in case there is a translation from their language to English LOL. Then I will also try to go to a hotel and ask their staff as hotel staffs are expected to speak different languages including English hehe. I really hope that will help me Have a nice day.

Hi kodukodu, I think you are right... Being patient would be one of the most essential and key factor in getting along with them... (but I am so very impatient and that is going to land me in more trouble). That is a smart thought - trying to find a dictionary or the hotels as they should have english speaking guys at least there...

Okay these will definitely be a horror for me. I will walk wherever I feel like and stop only when I find a place that I can have shelther. Basically, I will walk, walk and walk until I can't stand and hopefully find some one who will understand my language..that is scary!

Strangely, I too felt horrified... Initially I thought if they just were going to have me roasted.. They have many movies where they show up such things... So even if you think you would walk till you are able to stand... just be careful

There are regions in my country that speaks a different language so I will be lost in translation if I go to those regions. I think before I go to a foreign country, I want to make sure I speak the language or if I dont I am with someone who does. Even in my country, there are places where that uses a different language that I dont understand.

Hi Captain, Yes, I can relate to this one. Here in India too we have so many different languages and dialects they just add to so many confusions. A word in one language means a much different thing in another (- and at times even rude) So the translation is always a great concern.
