Is Sachin Really a God Of Cricket?

I Believe when indians call sachin God Of Cricket, its a little over exaggeration! As Expected from us,emotional Indians!.Firstly God never fails and performs his task with perfection, same cannot be said about sachin. No Doubt he is most talented modern era batsman, great batsman because of his consistent scoring for such a long period, but i believe he is not best performer under pressure, often gets out at crucial times leaving others to do the job. I remember many years ago, india Vs pak test match at bangalore ,worldcup finals 2003,natwest series chasing 315,recent india Vs Aussie oneday ,india chasing 360 plus.I am not blaming him because he did not get runs, its just that under pressure he looses his composure and plays uncharacteristic shots and gets out, example natwest match,he looked out of sorts moment he stepped on the batting crease at crucial time,WC 2003,played very unlikely pull shot on mcgrath bouncer ,so early in the innings.sometimes scored runs, but got out at crucial point of match leaving others to do the job, example ,odi against aussie, chasing 360 plus, scored brilliantly, but got out when india needed some 17 runs, india lost match, india Vs pak, famous test at bangalore ,got out when india needed less than 20,india lost. i think he is great batsman ,butwe should not get carried Away in saying him god or something.Playing under pressure at crucial times ,leave it to aussies.gilli 100 in WC 2007,Ponting 100 in WC 2003,Steve Waugh 100 in crucial WC match against Southafrica in WC 99,Shane warnes performance in 1996,1999 WC,mcgrath at the age of 37 in 2007 WC against SA In semifinals, list goes on.

Come on friend, this is just an emotional tagging on the great cricketer, I mean his being the God of cricket. No, I do not think he is the God but I have to say candidly that none has stayed for such a long time in the field of cricket and only because of that he could score half century of century in test. Surely, like all human beings, he too is fallible and we can not expect miracle from him.

i dont expect him to carry out miracle, but under pressure he chokes and does not play to his god gifted enormous talent, which no cricketer has,he scores tonnes under less pressure, whereas Aussies, with less talent than him, raise their game & play unforgettable knocks at crucial times.sachin's best pressure innings are sharjah,WC2003 against pak, where he looked in command, very few ,thats why he can be called great batsman but not great performer under pressure.

After all the data has been tallied it seems Sachin is not like Laxman and other players who handle pressure and convert a losing game into either a draw or a win.

yes i agree to you that altough he is a very good player and he has a lot of records under his belt, but somewhere down the line the question comes - is he a team player? is he a player who can turn crunch matches in the team's favour. and that is one time when a lot of people will find it difficult to say yes. cause if we see the records, there are very few situations when he played well in a very crunch situation. yes, if he starts well then the team is always gonna win. but there are very few instance where the team needed him, he came, he saw and he delivered accordingly. and that is what lacks in his list of records. and that is where players like steve waugh, mike hussey comes into play. even india skipper dhoni is such a kind. they will not do a lot when the team is doing well. but when the team is in problem, you will find such players always there to save the team. this is what makes a real master.

I just got friend who agrees with me.As far as what divkar has said i dont think what sachin did in that triseries is quiet extraordinary, yaa he looked good in those matches and in a fighting mood & even contributed to win,but if you see only in one match india had to chase above 230 & below 260 which is not such a huge score to chase.what commentators around world says is their personal opininon.I don't say sachin is not a match winner,he does contribute in indian victory, but mostly his contribution comes under easy or less pressure moments which most good batsman do around the world. As far as you pointed 2 sharjah innings who everybody points out again & again because sachin played very few such innings like those, compare desilvas innings in semifinals & finals in 96 WC & see which one are better.desilva played those in the biggest tournament of cricket in crucial matches like semi & final & when his side had lost 2-3 wickets for nothing.

Dear friend, There are lots of records for Sachin. I consider him as one of the living legend in cricket. May be a players who could be an all rounder too at times. I feel at times he is a one man army. Moreover many times he had made India to win matches. There is no doubt Sachin is one of the greatest cricketer of all times. Moreover as a person it is know he is good human too.

Well even god cant save a team when they bowl so poorly.Indian team didnt had plan B when plan A failed.Plan A was to get a good score in first innings , that didnt happen but atleast they could have bowler better with some intent.Even on a flat pitch you expect bowlers of top team that they will restrict a team to 300 runs a day ,but Soth Afican got the score of 600 in just four sessions ,with 225 runs coming in first session of third day.Sachin is one of greatest batsman ever ,but still he is a human being with bat in his hand not a magical wand by which he can save the team from impossible loss.He did his best ,some batsman supported him well but overall India played poor cricket and hence this loss.Out of 50 centuries of Sachin only 11 came at a time when India lost .So not a bad record .

I am not asking this Question because India lost the test in SA,but this question is in General. In this test he showed some fighting spirit & we cannot blame him for loosing test ,but apart from few matches he dont play to his potential under pressure, but every time sachin scores a century media goes gaga over him ,even our MPs praise him like god as if they have no other important work. Sachin is outstanding ,but in my opinion he is not the greatest batsman,i as a cricket lover would prefer a spirited fighting 40 from a batsman under pressure, rather than counting 50 Hundreds!.mostly which came batting first & in less pressure.

Every body has got the right to opinion the way you have one. Some people think his performances in cricket are beyond humanly possible, his records vouch for that, so brand him above human which is god. It is their opinion and you have to respect it. Is there anybody you can see who can brake his records in near future? I don't see any. Secondly it is people, not only Indians but many from other cricketing world- Toda's news Australians rate him above their superhero Bradman, who brand him god not Sachin branding himself as God. He is the most down to earth personality among sporting heroes of the world. Imran Khan had similar things to say about Sachin he had to retract his words when he was reminded of the smashing he gave to Shoaib Akhtar in world cup match in South Africa and helped India to win that match. The great Barry Richard had something similar to say about Sachin that he is only good on slow Indian wickets, He had to retract his words when he scored blistering hundred on centurion. Again who can forget his swashbuckling innings in two consecutive matches at Sharjah against Aussies, in first one he helped India to qualify to play in final, could not win because wrongly given out by Pakistani Umpire and in final won the match for India. Human memories are so short just last tour to Australia, Sachin single handedly helped India to register first ever triseries win in Australia by scoring 2 consecutive hundreds in 2 finals and winning best of three finals. The list is so large this place would be insufficient.
