Itouch or Ipad?

Recently, I decided I wanted to but an I... or some sort, after exploring the different types and even considering buying a normal MP3 player; I was wondering which is better, an ipad or an itouch? Just to make sure everyone understands, I do realise the ipad is a mini kind of laptop, to me it just looks the wrong shape and seems unwieldy. To be honest, I don't really know, does anyone have any advice?
