My daughter needs more blood work done

I feel so bad for my daughter. She's six and she just had blood work done a week ago to be checked for Von Willebrand disease before she can get her tonsils out. I have it as well as my mother and a few cousins and I think my grandmother had it as well I cant remember.
When I took her to the special doctor to see about having her tonsils out he called our family doctor to talk to him. The doctor wanted to see my daughter the following Monday so I brought her in. He wrote her a order to have bloodwork done at the hospital. She was scared and crying when they drew her blood. I hate having my blood drawn so I understand how she felt.
The special doctor called me today and told me that her family doctor didnt order the correct blood work tests to be done so it wasent of any use. I feel so bad that she has to go through this again. The special doctor told me that my daughter needs to be seen by a hematologist who will know the proper blood work to have done. So now its a matter of finding one and getting my daughter in to see him.

Oh I know how she feels as well.
If they can just get the needle and find the vein...draw the blood and be done

LOL me creating a discussion like this just is causing me to be even more creeped out. Everytime I get a response I have to think about blood being drawn. It keeps giving me the chills lol but I love comments so thanks for yours! I've never had a problem with them finding a vein in the inside of my elbow because my veins buldge out its kind of gross. When your pregnant you have more blood in your body and they drew my blood and let go off the cotton to see if it was done bleeding and it literally started pouring down my arm. So sick.

That's too bad!
I've had issues with my tonsils growing up, but I've never had a Von Willebrand disease or a tonsillectomy.
And not for bloodwork, but I've had blood drawn out quite a few times. Although it's been a few years since I did last, but I've donated blood in the past. It's a rewarding feeling, but not when the needle is about to pr!ck you.
Hope your daughter feels better.

Hi Shaggin,
Sorry to hear the tests conducted have to be re-done. I dont blame the family doctor but I can sense something that doctors generally do - not sure if that kind of things happen at your country or not. Here, if it would have been a case, we would be sure that the Special Doctor has some association with some specific pathology clinic where he would have recommended us.
I can suggest Homoeopathy for you daughter as Tonsils is quite common in the kids and there are some good medicines in that. You can give them a try and save the operation and the painful process.

There are kids who are more likely to catch tonsilitis then others. So I think since my daughter is so prone to getting them that anytime anyone around here in her class has it she automatically catches it. My sister was the same way. She had tonsilitis chroically for 15 years. Then she had her tonsils removed. I caught it from my sister once in all those years we lived together. Then I caught it once from my daughter the first time she had it and the other 6 times shes had it I havent caught it. My resistance builds up after being around it I think. My son has been around it and shared food with my daughter when we didnt know she had tonsilitis and he has never caught it from her either. My sons tonsils are small like mine but my daughters are huge like my sisters were.

So sorry to hear about your daughter's blood testing experiences. On the flip side I am glad you will be looking for a hematologist so they can get to the bottom of her problems.
So sorry for her though as she is so young and surely will not be happy.

Yes it is good that they will be sending her to someone who knows what specific tests she needs to have done to check for the von willebrand disease. It just sucks that this wasent done first instead of ordering just routine bloodwork that didnt show anything. I am not going to tell her that she will need more bloodwork done until that day or the day before. I dont want her being scared and it ruining her holiday.

It is really shame that the family doctor didn't done the right "test" i hate when there is a miss understanding between doctor and every doctor send you to some one else, i wish your girl a lot of health, and it is good that she will get his tonsils off at a young age.
I am a friend that afraid to do this surgery and she is like 24 years old, and she suffer from tonsils Tonsillitis every 6 months..

That is always the problem around here. Its like a family doctor just does basic stuff like colds. If anything else is wrong they have to go to all these other doctors. I live in a small town so there is never anything close to us besides the family doctor. So anytime something is wrong I have to drive an hour or two to see a different doctor. My daughter has gotten tonsilitis 7 times in 18 months. I've only have tonsilitis twice in my life. I must have a good resistance because without knowing my daughter had tonsilitis many times I have eaten food that she didnt finish and I only caught tonsilitis from her once.
