hypothesis, testing, conclusion, and theory.
That is the mantra of scientific method. It is the basis for the research and development that lead to everything from the invention of the wheel to finding other life sustainable planets.
Many people of science say that there can't possibly be anything after death. Self awareness ceases and our carcasses rot.
So, to you who say there cannot be anything beyond the grave, a friendly challenge.
How did you test the hypothesis that lead you to the conclusion that there cannot be any kind of self awareness beyond the death of our bodies?

A true believer of the scientific method must admit, as I do, that there is no way to prove, conclusively, 100%, that there is no god.
If you truly believe the universe is infinite, then you must admit it is impossible to look everywhere.
There are claims made in holy books which violate the laws of physics as we currently understand them, but that understanding evolves all the time. Quantum entaglement shows that information has travel faster than the speed of light -- but as yet we have no idea how.
Based on the facts we do have about the universe and the hypotheses that can be tested (controlled studies on the success of prayer, for example) it seems very, very unlikely that anything that would fit the definition of god exists.
But even Richard Dawkins admits that there is a tiny chance, however small he thinks it may be, that he is wrong and there is an intelligent being who created the universe. (This is in his book, "The God Delusion")

The only time I assume a religious person has a mental problem is if they are using their religion to justify killing people. Some people are looking for excuses to unleash their blood-lust, and religion is their excuse. Sick.

I think they use the same scientific method by which they determine the origin of the universe. In their minds, it works.
