why an ipod is not shipped to india?

i was watching ipod on the apple international site that i made my mind to purchase an ipod touch and i wanted that free engraving so i was opting online shopping rather than purchasing from a store. but i came to know that they ship the product only in US and not in India.
how to get a customized engraved Ipod here in India. when will apple start this service in India....

There are certain things whereby it's only available within their own country and it's common. It's the company policy because they place their own countrymen's interest above the rest. If u really want it, u can get someone over in the US to buy it for u, before sending it over to u. IF u were to wait for the service to start in india, it's going to be a long wait and it won't be cheap too.

i do not think this to be case because electronic gadgets are available all over the globe and further apple products are manufactured in china although they are designed in USA. so i think apple should take extra charges for shipping and provide the product all over the globe as many people have started liking it and is integral part of there life...

besides, you might try Amazon~
and why dont you buy it directly in the locol shop?

i have tried amazon, but the product is not even shipped through amazon and i have purchased one from local but now i want to gift an ipod and want that to be engraved which is done on purchase from apple website...
