Today i was teaching a student about computer, i told him to make few tables with text and to make them in a group. I show him the way how to make this thing many time, i spend 2 hours to make him understand this small thing but every time when he tried to do that he make some mistake, he spend 3 hour to complete the task given by me. Was he really in problem or he was trying to spend the time by this work??? I don't understand his problem. was he don't understand the matter or he confused or he did not have the confidence to complete the matter????

I don't think this can soley be attribtuted to a lack of confidence. Some people just learn concepts quicker or slower than others. We ll have our on pace that we learn at. We all have the ability. We just have to find the right ways to bring it out.

I wonder if the student may have a learning disability such as ADD. It is common for people to appear to have difficulty grasping simple concepts with this disorder. He may have to rethink each step of each step of what he has to do. For instance, if you asked him to spell the word cat. It seems simple enough to us, but the ADD sufferer will have to not only remember how to spell it, but how to form letters as well. I have two sons who both have ADD and I know that teaching gets frustrating, you just have to figure out what methods work for each child, even for the ones who have no learning disabilities.

for once you need to know the speed of learning of your student.. that student might be a slow learner. lack of confidence may also be a reason for the mistake especially if the student is learning computer for the first time.. again the student might be having other psychological problems hindering him from concentrating or the way you teach him...it may be more technical than he can comprehend. try to know if he has other problems which lower his understanding and if he hasnt then confidence or the way you teach may count for that

i don't think that the child is lacking of confidence... i think he really doesn't understand about computer or he is very new at it... i used to teach kids and teenagers as well in the past and i had encountered this kind of student as well... we just have to be very patient with them and explain it to them over and over again with love... :-) take care and have a nice day...

I agree with the others and their suggestions. I seems that your student doesn't have much experience with computers. I would suggest first identifying the problem he has with grasping the concept you're trying to tech him and then giving him a much more simple example of that concept. Sometimes, it might help to even use an analogy when possible. For example, since you're trying to teach him how to group text into a table format, if your student has interests such as baseball, you can explain to him that the tables are like team baseball fields, the text would be the team players and all you want him to do is make a few baseball fields (tables, ie. a red field) and place (group) a few players (text, ie. placing red shirted players) onto that red field. Then for the next field (ie. blue field), you want him to be able to do the same thing and so on I also agree with others that some people learn at a different pace, so patience is also important when teaching someone. I hope this helps.

Hi dear, The best you can do is, just simply the same with the lightest way of doing. If you made it 2 hrs. time, the same type of thing with a 5 mts. job also can be done. Show the simplest way, I mean the same assignment with its small version. If you can make the sample of same with lighter figures and easiest method, he will follow you. The simple and easy way with starting make him also more confidence. Once he got the grip of the doing the matter, he will follow you. Also, while doing, guide him by correcting and tell him the fault of the way how he is doing. Also, let him stay nearby and observe what you are doing. So, he will get the flow of how to do it. The process is important. What to do first, 2nd, 3rd etc. then he will follow. Also, let him to start with a small assignment and ask him to do. Guide him while doing and follow what he does. I think, he is capable of doing it, he should do it. Also, compare with other students – if all others are doing nicely, that means this boy may have the issue of following the things. What age he is – if he is age enough to follow the things, and not following, he may need special care and attention. Thank-s
