I have been home schooling my 4 childern. and it never fails someone always says well then they do not get the social activity that they should have or the education is lacking. First let me say our chapter of home school has basketball games 4-h clubs reads clubs and alot of the same clubs as regular school and the books from alpha omega are really hard. In tx you have to teach reading/writing Math and good government (civics). Yes they will walk across the stage and graduate and get a high school diploma just like all the out kids do. except they are not forced to take classes that are useless like 2 years of spanish. If i lived on the rich side of town my kids could go to a public school that offers more than just spanish but because i am in middle class side of town all they get is spanish and with all the threats in the world today i doubt many people will go to foreign countries anyway. not to mention that a bill got signed and you can goggle it that starting 2011 2012 the public schools have to teach islam. as of oct this year there were over 300,000 tx childern beign home schooled. another advantage is that the public school all they teach is the tak test. so all the kids learn is what is going to be on the test.

It is a fact that home schooled children are (well, maybe not all) much smarter than those educated in the public system. I have wanted to home school my youngest two children for years. I remember reading an article, about twenty years ago regarding a family that home schooled their three children. the eldest, a boy..had a 4.0 GPA, and went all the way to Harvard. Now, while education is not everything, a person can be very successful without a college education, but my personal belief is that education is very important. The majority of home schooled children are extremely well rounded individuals, and often have musical talents. Yes, public schools...teach "to the test." quite often!

I home school my child and I have home schooled one through high school, My children are very active with extra activities as well. My oldest has been at the same job for 6 years now and she has learned every job there. She could manage the place if she needed too. She went to work at 14 by choice and she continued her education as well. My youngest is 14 now and she has so many friends from church, the library home school group, 4-H, camping, ect that I don't know their names. She does not lack in social skills and I would bet that she can tell you more about horses, as that is her love, than most kids can tell you of what they learned in a science classroom.

in my country, home schooling is not as popular as it is in the US. but there are some families here who are into it and many stories i've read and heard simply dismiss that notion that children who are home-schooled are less sociable or exposed to the more "natural" environment of learning which are the schools. i have been browsing and reading through many sites and listening to similar experiences because im thinking of this learning option for my child. home-schooled children actually learn better compared to those who go to the traditional schools. bonuses include paying so much less for books and other educational tools, you and your children have more time spent together, both of you learn to be more creative and have plenty of fun in the process, and the flexible hours, of course. so, i'm really hoping it would work for us.

After successfully having raised two wonderful children completely on my own, especially being as young as I am having two college graduates. I was born in the US, and so where my children but my relatives descent is from Puerto Rico. I sent my kids through the entire Catholic system as the public schools here know first hand since I went to them myself, that they were useless and I could not see my children being educated through public schools. Since I worked full time I could not home schooled them myself but if I had the allowed time I would have opted for that as well. On a side note I made sure my children took Spanish class as although they were very fluent to begin with I wanted them to perfect and learn it fully appropriate. As a secondary language is required in schools here and I could not see any purpose for them to take French and or German. But the Spanish is very necessary here in the states, as it does open room for more opportunities, so I can see where it would be necessary in come countries, unless the children would never leave their own country per say. Keep up the great job with the home schooling of your children as I feel this is very good for them, as you will be controlling exactly what is important versus what is unnecessary. I wished more were this dedicated here so many children would not waste their lives.
