I think my opinion depends on the athlete's situation. Sometimes someone moves to another country because they or their family really needed a new home -- maybe they faced violence in their homeland or their parents chose to immigrate to give the family a better life. When that happens, I think it's natural for the athlete to embrace their new country and want to represent that country. At other times, though, it seems like athletes are recruited by another country just to win medals and they have little connection with the country they are representing at all. They may even spend most of their time actually living in their original home country or elsewhere! That whole situation seems fake to me.
