The short answer is a resounding and emphatic NO. What you are referring to is sometimes called a "Benevolent dictatorship" and it is a self contradictory term. Any dictatorship, even a so called "benevolent" one, operates on the basis that one person has the right to give rights to another person. Rights are inherent to us as humans. Whether you are religious and believe they come from god or just believe humans have rights as inherent because we are humans, rights are not for one person to give to another. If we go down that road, we must also go the direction that one person can take those same rights as easily as they give them. Even if a dictator intends to creates good, he must do so by taking the liberties of another. For example, security. A dictator can create a perfectly safe crime free environment, but in order to do so, he must limit the rights, freedoms and liberties of everyone by doing things like unwarranted searches, rejecting the presumption of innocence, denying due process and every citizen's mobility. A dictator can create a country where no one is offended or has their feelings hurt, but to do so he must, again, limit one's freedoms, limiting everyone's speech, prohibiting the expression of thoughts and opinions and stamp out dissenting ideology. So no, NO dictatorship ever brings about good cause. The two notions are diametrically opposed.

See, I understand freedom is the birthright of living beings. when you crossing the limits of your freedom affects another person it should be checked. This is the reason why we have a leader who is there to say what is properly using our freedom and what is misusing it. In a country which has a huge population, I feel Dictatorship or as one person said in this discussion Benevolent Dictatorship will be the perfect way to go. This is because when I practice an act it can be unfavorable but at the end of the day it will be beneficial for the country and its people while if you practice Democracy it needs the approval of everyone for a particular thing to be practiced.

Well, if you wish a dictatorship in your country, by all means install one, it's your country and you can do what you like with it. However, you must keep in mind that eventually that dictator will do something you disagree with or decide you should no longer have a particular right or freedom and you will have no recourse or means to stop it. Here in the U.S. we see our rights as inherent and inalienable. These rights are spelled out in our constitution, but not given by it. Laws are created to prevent the rights of others from being infringed upon, so we need no dictator to decide what is the proper use of a right, it is already defined in law. We also enjoy the freedom here of not having to justify the exercising of our rights. We do not have to explain to anyone why we should use rights we have because, again, rights do not belong to anyone to give. We believe that the power to govern is given by consent of the people rather than the force of will by a leader. Our government is our servant, not our master. It exists and serves only at the pleasure of our citizens. Always remember, the government you give extraordinary power to use against those you disagree with today, can also very quickly become the government that disagrees with you tomorrow. There has never been a dictatorship in all the history of human civilization that has not trampled the rights of others. No dictatorship ever remains benevolent.

well, dictator is not good. he just think of his own benefit. he doesn't think of their citizens. he uses citizens to work for him without giving good income or acts. he tends to torture citizens who don't want to work under his lead. i think democratic is better than dictator. it makes leader can't be dictator. the leader is chose because of the citizens, for citizens, and by citizens. he can't think of his own benefit but also think of his citizens.

I always feel too many people trying making a decision is bad and that is why in a democratic country majority needs to say yes for a thing to be put into practice, which takes time. In dictatorship one person takes the decision, so if he is capable and good I feel the country will benefit. Of course there are pros and cons in both but I feel dictatorship will be effective if the leader is good but the same cannot be said about Democracy.

In my opinion, the only way a dictatorship can be good for a country is when the dictator is fair and even handed with everyone, including him/herself. The only one I know who has no prejudices is Jesus. But even if Jesus was a country's dictator, there still must be cooperation from all the citizens.

Theoretically, the answer to your question is yes. Sometimes unpopular acts are necessary in order to implement changes for the better.

Why would it be run for the good of the country and citizens? If the dictator is not corrupt won't they run it for the general good of the world?

for, me it doesnt mean that, if a country has a dictator leader, then there is no good things will happen, if the leader thinks all the good for his/her country, then that is a good fact, but usually a country that has a dictatorship will fall to a worst things, like in our country....
