This is a news item on the front page of to day's 'Times Of India'. As per the report Indian ladies are flocking to Bangkok, Thailand to select the gender of the baby yet to be born. In India gender selection of the baby is banned but in Thailand it is not so the Indians crazy about getting a boy child go to the place to get medical treatment to ensure they get a baby boy. The doctors there give medical treatment which ensures that the lady undergoing that treatment will get the baby of desired gender and the treatment it seems is almost 100 % perfect. The cost of the treatment is $8,500.00 add to that travel expenses and hotel charges. The cost apart would you undergo this treatment to get a baby boy for you? I have got two daughters and no son but still I will not prefer this treatment to get me a baby boy. I feel it is unethical and interfering in the working of the nature. What do you feel?

I agree with previous responders. That's just plain stupid. I don't understand why are people craving to have a baby boy instead of baby girl so much. Perhaps it's about cultural commons. In our society there is no such tendency. I also agree, that it's messing with the nature, such experiments don't end well, sooner or later there will be troubles with side effects. Well, you can already call this inequality between the number of boys and girls a negative side effect.

Thank you biomechanoid. Yes indeed the nature will react to anything that is unfavorable to it and we will have to face the brunt of the same.

wow, that *IS* messing with Nature, alright! Yes, I do think it's unethical, and as the other poster said, what will happen in 20 years' time when young men want to marry a young woman? There'll be less to choose from, for sure. I'm also thinking the procedure does have some dire side effects as well, like birth defects and miscarriages, probably worse, but I don't know what's involved in the procedure.

Thank you maishi for your views. I think it is time the world leaders come together and ban this unethical practice to save our future generation.

Hi msdivkar, So they want a boy baby and not girl baby. I just can not imagine how people could go to this extent and go even the nature's law. The people who rushing towards Bangkok must be affluent in money and therefore they are there without caring the monetary sides. But whatsoever the case I simply say it a silly act and demoralizing on the female counterparts.
