I stopped using soap on my body

I have read some articles about people who stopped using soap on their bodies. I thought that doing so will help lessen my body acne and so I have been doing this for about 2 weeks now. There are less acne breakouts on my back side but there are still some from time to time. I think that maybe this is still an adjustment period. I do not smell, by the way. I still shower but I just don't use soap. How about you?

I also use soaps and I don't have breakouts, too. Maybe it depends on the skin type. You will have breakouts if you have really sensitive skin. ^^

Yeah plus the bacteria and dirt that can't be removed simply by water can block your pores and eventually lead to more break outs.

Well they say it's more healthy for your skin to just use water. But as we were raised to use soap i think it will be hard to give up that luxury.

I use soap but in the winter i dont use soap on my lower legs because i would have a problem with dry skin there. I have heard recent reports that say using laundry soap is unneccessary. I just cant seam to stop the use of soap. However i now use less soap in the laundry and stuff still comes out clean. I dont have children at home anymore and my clothes dont get really dirty.

I Am not sure about acne breakouts but I know some people with dry skin can't use soap but can wash using Sorbolene cream it cleans like soap but won't affect your skin...may be you can try it? go to your pharmacist and ask about it or they may suggest another alternative.

the first thing that you should do i guess is go to a dermatologist. i use soap in my body and had breakouts but its because the soap is not good for my skin. try soaps with tea tree oil or instead of soap try to use liquid soap. but do go to a doctor to be looked. its best if you still use something to get rid of the oil and dirt that can't be washed only by water.

its rubbish. the more you do not use soap, the more unhealthy you are. soap cleanses the body and if you do not even use the liquid one, you leave a film of bacteria on your skin. you shower, yes, but the water only washes away the body oil and some dirt. moreover, when you shampoo your hair, the dirty shampoo rolls down your body and some leave bacteria taken away from the hair on your body. i suggest you use soap again.

I don't use soap any more. I found that soap has something called sodium laurel sulfate which in large amounts can be harmful, soap also has petrochemicals which is bad also. Most soaps tend to change the skin's ph level and hence get breakouts with pimples and acne. Once you get these pimples you can become more susceptable to infections. The reason why the governments let these companies use these potentially harmful chemicals is because they get taxes from the sales and the doctors keep having more business from people getting sick all the time. They don't want us to live forever and maybe its their way of controlling the population problems. Sodium laurel sulfate is a industrial strength floor cleaner. In wikipedia it says that there is no proof that sodium laurel sulfate (sls) is harmful I still haven't hear anything that suggest that it is safe. Even the sls safety data sheet says to wash your skin throughly with water to avoid poisoning. This toxic substances stores in your liver and kidneys and can take years to leave the body. I choose not to use soap for that reason.

Soap can be drying. I love the new body washes with exfoliating beads. There are so many different fragrances, which gives a variety to choose from. I don't have a problem with body acne, but I do have dry skin! I certainly prefer body wash to hand soap.

I think it depends on the soap you use what is in it and if perfumed and other stuff. I find dial soap and ivory is good also dove. soap kills the germs so I do use soap. My skin is very dry at times so I change soap sometimes and sometimes use liguid soap . I think what is in some soap can make you break out, but also what you eat to. if you break out with certain soaps change the brand name until you find one that is right for you. I think soap is important to clean your body just like shampoo..

I think soap is very drying so that should really have anything to do with your acne problem but the soaps ph level might not be right fir your skin and might have been irritating for you do maybe now that you have stopped using it you actually find that it's helped your acne. Try a soap that might be specially tailored for your skin type.

Water actually can wash away dirt by itself. Oil and water don't mix, though, so if skin oil is bonding dirt to your skin (or if the dirt was oily, like you were working with machinery or something) you need some sort of soap to break the oily bonds so the water can wash away the dirt. It is not necessary to cover every inch of your body with soap when you shower. Doing so will dry out your skin, and if you have sensitive skin, this can indeed cause more breakouts. I find that using plain bar soap on my face gets rid of breakouts better than expensive cleansers do, although it means I have to use moisturizer afterward. Everybody is different. Also, body odour does not come from dirt, it comes from the bacteria that naturally live on everyone's skin. When they eat your sweat, their waste products produce an odour. Since everyone has a different mix of bacteria, some people have more odour than others even in they shower carefully every day.

i used to use a bar of soap many years ago for washing my body down. I also love to have showers but i always use shower gel which cleans me well and has a great fragrance. I only ever had acne when i was a kid, i went to the doctor as the creams i bought never worked and eventually we found a tablet that i took for a few weeks that worked wonders, my acne went and luckily never came back. Even now i only use a bar of soap to wash my hands, but that is only if i don't have any liquid soap in.

I also stopped using the soap on my body but it is not for body acne but it is because my body becomes very dry by using the soap, so i start to use body wash.

I have heard how soap can dry out your skin. there have to be better alternatives out there than soap. Dry winter months give the perfect opportunity to find new choices.

hello labea! i wonder what are you using when you are taking a bath? well, i think there are soaps which are not suitable for your skin. not all soaps will have same effects on you same as the other girl using the same soap. it depends on skin types, i think. mind sharing what are you using when you are bathing?

I think that you should not stop using soap. If you have acne is because you're type of skin is oily. But there are some treatments for that. Just go to the nearest pharmacy and ask for any treatment for the acne. Don't stop using soap, use a neutral ph one.

yes , shower without soap must be good! As we know that, things like soap contain a lot of chemicals like sodium hydroxide, which can be considered as a irritant to our bodies. It may cause our skin to swell or being itchy. I have consulted a professional doctor recently, he also stated that water is the puriest and the most neutral thing on the world. If someone suffer from skin problems, they should not use soap to clean the body often. Because I believe you are not a labourer which works a lot physically and sweat a lot. So that our bodies are nnot that dirty as general people think. Some people keep using soap with no breakout. You should know one point, is that every people has different skin properties. They have different result on using the same brand of soap. So that,I recommend you , if you want to use soap, you should use some soap brand such as sebamed(it is more expensive than conventional type of cleaning product!).It stated that there product has a pH of 5.5. I think it can reduce the irritating effect of your sensitive skin.

I don't think its good not to use soaps. Its like a detergent to our bodies. Basically, soaps are for cleansing. Acne is a common thing. You just need to identify what type of soap suites your skin. Try herbal soaps. My friend use fruit bar soap and she likes it since upon using it, her acne were gone. But, since its not available here in our country she use other soap. I recommend her to use papaya soap which I am using. It helps me remove my skin asthma. And she's happy. It has the same effect with fruit bar soap. But I recommend you to consult professionals regarding your skin before using any other soaps.
