Hi guys I just want to share this very nice thing I found out recently (though it had been on news already a long time ago). There is a store in Batanes, Philippines that is called the Honesty Cafe. It is an honesty cafe because no one is looking after the merchandise. Whoever wants to buy anything from the store can go freely inside and get what she/he wants, list the product they bought along with it's price and would honestly leave the payment of the item they took. Inside the store is a typical convenient store (sari-sari store) and some coffee. So once inside, anyone can sit, relax, and have some coffee. The items on the store are tagged with it's price while others are on the wall. The tourists of the store intentionally drops excessive payment to show their support to the owner. The owner of the said store was a former public school teacher that opened the store after her retirement. She left the store open because she helped her husband with their cane vinegar production in the farm. She opted to continue the store operation but because her presence was needed on the farm, she left the store open. I wonder if there's a lot more store like this on other part of the Philippines and the world? It's amazing!

Isn't it Batanes is where the heaven meets the earth? I suppose the cherubs are flapping their wings in the vicinity, ha ha! But that's truly great. Honesty is the best policy. If we can get people to be honest, I'd donate more coffee with biscuits and sandwiches!

So true. If people would just be that good, there are also a lot of people who would never think twice in helping them back. There's a lot of good people in this world but choses to just keep it to themselves because of the few bad ones. :(

I wonder if this would work in a big urban city. If the excessive payments left by some would cover the inevitable theft of others.

Hi there Florencia! Wow! I have heard of that store but I haven't got the chance to visit it. I do hope that I can, someday. I think it's great and even rarer that honest people are people who can give their trust with the big possibility of dishonesty from other people. I think that the owner is really a good person for having been able to entrust her store to the customers. I hope that people will continue to be honest when buying from that store and that may it inspire others to learn to trust other people.
