It is always an annual nightmare when the new year comes along. Along the celebration of the New Year is the cries and screams of people who are unintentionally wounded by fireworks. These usually results in less fingers, hands and toes, disfigured faces and a lot of tears and regrets. I know that it has been a tradition to light a firework to welcome the new year but are you considering an alternative way to celebrate? Why do think people still light firework event though they know that there is a chance that they could be harmed as well?

I don't ever do fireworks for New Year's. Right now I live in town and have no way to get out of the city. Here it is illegal. I don't like to spend my money on things that are just going to "go up in smoke!" anyway!

It is said that fireworks stemmed from the ancient activities in which our forefathers drove out evil spirit by burning bamboo. The fireworks can enliven festive atmosphere but it brings about environment pollution even personal injury. In a general way I don't like it either.

It has been sometime that we have stopped using this very old tradition of making noise on New Year. It used to be a very loud Christmas we had before but now that we are smaller in size as a family we decided a much solemn and quite New Year. The neighbours though are that noisy around but we just keep ourselves indoors and just enjoy the company of each one in the family. We eat and then after an hour after midnight we retire already.

No I will not be lighting fireworks this New Year. As you indicated, they are very dangerous to the point that someone can get seriously injured. My alternative to the fireworks would be to celebrate at church or at home, in bed. I will just be thankful that I have been given the privilege to live another year. So, I will celebrate, also with a pray of thanksgiving.

Nope. I don't want to go to the hospital with missing fingers. Fireworks are really dangerous especially when they are the strong ones. Besides, they just make noise. I will just use pans and other cookware to make some noise. People are really hard headed. They know that they can be harmed by this fireworks yet they continue to use it. I wish they would stop using fireworks.

In our tradition, we celebrate the new year by lighting up the fireworks. However, here it doesn't allowed to light the fireworks because it can lead to the fire accident easily. And sometimes the children will have the accidents when they play the fireworks. So we won't celebrate the new year by this way. I love China

in my place no individual shows interest to fireworks during new year, some officials would do the fireworks like some pubs or some movie theaters will light the fire works for the crowd gathered inside and they will take all precautions when doing this..We just enjoy it..New year is not a big festival in our place as it is just a normal beginning for another year.

It is already part of the tradition to light a fireworks but this tradition does not harm the people but also the environment. Imagine how our air is polluted every new year and how the trees and other living organism struggles including humans to breath. Good thing I bought a vuvuzela, no worries about the harmful effect of explosion and also the smokes of fireworks everywhere! I hope people be more concern with environment than thinking of the tradition..tsk tsk

People will never stop lighting fireworks (well, some may stop the fireworks thing) because it is part of the celebration. The celebration is not really complete if there are no fireworks!. People just need to be more cautious when they light these fireworks to avoid accidents.. ^^
