in terms of writing, what have you accomplished this year? have you published articles, stories, or even books? in my case, i have submitted a research paper and thesis to an online publishing, and they are now available online and even on google book.

Hello, Mensab. This was the year I began to really do well with my writing. I've written around 700 new articles, and had one published in a local newspaper. I'm also earning well with my writing, and it looks as if I can build it up to earn a living exclusively from writing. To get paid well for doing what I love is a great bonus, so I'm really pleased with my writing achievements this year.

2010 was my year for finally becoming a writer of fiction. I won my second National Novel Writing Month, and finished another novel and serialized it online on my blog. I plan to revise and publish that novel as an ebook early in 2011. I also started a half dozen or so stories that are far enough along for me to finish and publish at least a couple of them. I found a beta reader for my work, and got my first critique from her(a very helpful one) for a story that I wrote early in the year. I wasn't sure whether it was good enough to continue and the critique told me what I need to know to continue and make it much better. I also got going on a new writing blog on Wordpress. The biggest accomplishment was simply becoming a better writer.

I wouldn't call myself a success yet. I've only been writing fiction for a year, so I haven't published anything yet. That's coming up in 2011. I'm self-taught. I've been a heavy reader all my life, and I guess I just picked a lot of it up naturally. But I've still had to learn the nitty gritty of getting it all down, and I'm still learning. You don't get to be an expert in such a short time, but I'm working hard at it. The best advice I can give you is to read lots and lots of fiction. Read different genres, and pay attention to how writers put their books together, how they develop their characters, write dialog, etc. Writing classes and books about writing may also help, but the best way to learn is to read and keep writing. Work on whatever weaknesses you may have -- spelling, grammar, punctuation, vocabulary. Those are the basics that you have to have before you even start thinking about plots.

That is nice to hear mensab. I just joined academia this year and i was paid my first payment. I am also interested to make researches of my own. How dis you do the submission? what publishing site did you used? I would appreciate it very much if you share your success. I am also interested with the title of your thesis. I want to read it.

I really haven't accomplished much sadly. I did make more money off writing online articles than in any other year, but even though it increased about 400% in profit, we are still only talking at most $200. I did write some web shows that got filmed and released, so there is that. I really need to get more done this coming year if I really want to do more writing than legal papers at work like I am currently doing. It pays, but isn't creative at all.

That's fantastic. I have just started writing seriously on line, and have published several articles, but my goal in 2010 is to publish a book. We'll see!

Wow, I peeped into my own profile and stats show I have 405 discussions and 1715 responses. I am overwhelmed. I couldn't have done that! But what is important to me is if I had even made a difference to a reader. I do hope that my writing, my thoughts, my advices had mattered to someone.... Happy New Year! And congratulations on that thesis turned into a book! I am sure it would make a difference to many people!

That's great Mensab to have your research paper and thesis published online. I think I broke my own record for having poems, articles, and stories published. And I'm trying to have more published next year. So far I have eight poems and one story slated to be published.
