This is my most favorite modern English word of all time, though many people thought its a negative word because of the word "bad" and the "other term for donkey and butt that starts with letter A. I think another term Born out of it is badassery and badassness. Despite of coming from 2 insulting word, for some reason its an honor to be called badass. Badass is term for someone who is cool, tough, strong and amazing, a dare devil who is not afraid of challenges and someone who is successful. A badass is someone we wanted to be. Though I want to be a badass, Most badass didnt know they were a badass and they were not trying to be a badass, so if a person wants to be a badass aint gonna happen, You will be seen as a wannabe instead. I really love this word, but I didnt get its origin though on how two negative words form a word that is so cool and brilliant.

There are many occasions in the English language where a term of disparagement has been turned around to be thought of as a compliment. Usually these represent differences of opinion between different sectors of society and, in the case of 'badass', it would originally have been the older generation calling certain people of a younger generation a 'badass' (meaning someone who has no respect for the older generation). The younger generation have turned this round into being a compliment because they feel that not showing respect for the older generation is something to be proud of. (It is more complicated than this, of course, but I'm sure you understand what I mean.) The term 'badass' is not universally recognised as a compliment. I would still tend to use it in a pejorative sense of someone young who was, perhaps, a rebel for rebellion's sake. There is nothing good about rebelling merely for the sake of it and without having something specific to rebel against. In the 17th century there was a religious society called the Religious Society of Friends. The members were often so devout and uplifted in their meetings that, it was said, they shook or 'quaked' as they prayed. Their enemies and detractors therefore called them 'Quakers'. Although the society's official name is still 'The Religious Society of Friends', they often refer to themselves with pride as 'Quakers'.

Thats a good info with the word's origin, It seemed like being associated with rebels might be one of the reason why this world is popular to the youth. As in they wanted to be called one. They wanted to be seen as a badass because in a way rebellious is cool for the young ones. I like the info about the quakers and is really strange on how they embraced that name. usually badass is associated with with Singer song writers, stunt athletes, or action heroes.

A very startling question. I wish I knew the right answer. But my wild guess is it"s like genetics. The negative trait plus a negative trait equals a positive outcome. Happy New Year.

When a person is a badass you can instantly feel it in their presence alone, it makes you want to be them or be like them. I want to be a badass too but the real badass people are the ones who are not trying to be badass. I think in the next few years badass will be in the dictionary.
