American Army Leaving Afghanistan in 2011, 2014, or never?

According to President Obama, American Troops are all leaving Afghanistan in the year 2011. There's been promised to get the troops out of Afghanistan in 2010 first, now there's been promised 2011 or even 2014. What do you think of this?

It might be never, because if we leave Afghanistan right now, they terrorist could take over again, and I know that no one wants that. This might end up being a hundred year war for us. It will be the longest war that the U.S. has ever been in. Obama would like to get us out, but even he can see that that would be a very bad idea right now. We haven't won the war on terror yet.

Yeah, but see, the Taliban is nuts. These guys will stop at nothing to get their way, and they don't care who gets hurt in the process. Also, if these people are allowed to win and succeed, then you know that the U.S. will be in major trouble. If they attacked us once, they can always attack us again.

True, and I don't think it'll be anytime soon to be honest. I guess these countries just need support to be safe for everyone to live in and this is what the army is trying to achieve I think, a good environtment for people to live in. It's just insane that the Taliban and others try to avoid them from doing this..

True, I think these people were just trained to do this kind of awful things. I guess they'll do anything to achieve that goal, and don't care what happens as long as they reach their goal..

we'll see, who knows I don't think it'll be 2011, and 2014 is too far off to even wonder about.

I don't think it'll be 2011 either, and to be honest I don't even think they'll be out there in 2014..

oh come on more America bashing maybe you forget there are a lot oa Americans here too and we get damned tired of always hearing how aw3ful we are. okay our troops are there fighting the horrible taliban and also training the afghanistan soldiers in fighting, If our Prisident says they will pull out between 2011 and2014 they willd do so.He is still fairly new and is doing as best he can I think its time to bash some other country for a change destinybattlefield. I will not fight with you but I will command some respect for my fellow Americans., we are not your enemy unless you are taliban.Presidents before Obama and after him often promise to do something one year and they cannot always keeo that promise. If you think you can do a better job than our american president come over here and run for offic e. otherwise..,.....

First, don't think im America bashing.. I never really said the amaricans are aweful or anything? I just think that promises don't have to be made if they won't be done. I think these guys out there are doing a great job and it's just really good of them that they do this for their country, but there has been promised that they'd be out there in 2010, which didn't happen either. So I'm just wondering when they will actually leave.. I'm not at all saying he's not doing a right job, it's just this what I'm talking about, telling people something will hapen, and next thing, it doesn't actually happen..

There's still American military presence in Vietnam, so... I would be very surprised if we ever really truly leave Afghanistan. I hate war though. I'm a pacifist. So this sort of thing really makes me sad.

Hmm, I guess you're right, it'll probably never be truly over. There will always be some soldiers out there fighting for their country.. I too guess these soldiers will be out there for a while still, and it's just not right if you ask me.

I think we will never fully pull out of Afghanistan. If we do Afghanistan will fall apart. So I expect to see some tropps there forever. I also feel this way with Iraq. I also think Obama got stuck with to much crap that President Bush left unfinished. Afghanistan and Iraq are 2 of those things. Not everything Obama does wrong is all his fault.

Neither do I.. I guess they really need the army out there to be safe. True I think Obama is stuck with alot of nasty jobs, but then again he promises alot and I didn't see many of these promises become reality to be honest.. But I guess it's really a mess he's been thrown in and just tries his hardest to fix things a bit..

I find that promises should only be made in the event one is one hundred percent sure, as being the President he should know better. It is nice to hope that all the war/attempts can be over and the troops can come home safely.

Yeah, I think you're really right. All these promises that have been made, and not yet done.. I guess that won't be for a while, as they already promised they'd be out in 2010, and that didn't happen either.. But we'll just have to see I guess!

I don't think they should have been there to start with. There have been too many that have lost lives over there. I can't see this as an accomplishment for a bunch of heathrens that are never going to change,

Hard to say, I don't think it will happen this year and even 2014 seems doubtful for me. Afghanistan is still a very dangerous place, car bombs and rebel attacks are every day reality. If NATO troops would be leaving this year, Taliban would have a chance to claim the leading position in the country and all of the efforts of NATO would be ruined, the country would return to the state it was in before invasion of NATO. So for me it seems it will take a lot of time before this country will become civilized and peaceful.

Hiya destiny, I am not sure about anything the Spanish Troops were supposed to be out of there by now and yet they are still going on "Peace Missions". I still feel that they should be out of there too in fact all of them. But I donĀ“t know they will make their minds up sometime or another. I just hope they ALL get Home safe and sound.

Hi destinybattlefield, I am not from US and from India. But one of my uncles is a Soldier with the US Army and he had been to the war at Kuwait long back in his days. I know some idea from his experiences and so can say that it is not an easy task - getting the soldiers back. A bunch of idiots have made this world a place filled with hatred and the unfortunate thing is that they consider this something of self-respect and self-esteem.

Excuse me but the question should be ( What the American Army's doing in Afghanistan? )

Firstly I oppose the fact that we even have troops where there aren't even needed. And secondly Obama has been promising various things for quite a while since his campaign started. I feel like he can't be reassuring "We the people" because all it causes us to do is act irrational towards his actions. I think that if he brings back our troops I will eat every one of my words, but forreal it's a good thing he is bringing hope. I just hope it's soon. It just be sooner or later before everyone is going to be obliged to take care of country where it's not even the closes thing to heaven.

Well, do you really think the troops aren't needed at all? I think they are doing a good job out there, though it may indeed not be 100% necessary. Obama has been promising alot ever since this campaign started, but I didn't see many of these promises become reality yet. It is a good thing that people do have trust in him, but then again he shouldn't abuse that and act. I feel for the troops that get told they get to leave first in 2010, then 2011 then 2014, but I guess they're tough soldiers.

For starters, his promise was that we would be out of Iraq by 2011, not Afghanistan. He did keep his promise on Iraq, but the down side is the troops were then sent over to Afghanistan. I am with most that I don't support war. I hate and detest war to be honest and feel that none of us across the world should be fighting over anything. However, I am realistic and realize that if someone is a bully then that bully needs to be put down. Afghanistan is a ticking time bomb right now, just look at the recent set backs our own troops have experienced by a "misfire" on the borders. They are just as hot right now as Korea and we need to make sure we're doing our best to help out so as to keep our own country safe. I have friends stationed over there right now and I support the job they are doing. My husband when he was in was stationed for a time in Kosovo and I support the job he did. On that subject, at my husband' sold job there was a man there from Kosovo who when he found out my husband did service time over there to help, he would proudly say "This is my friend (name). He served in Kosovo to help my people. He's a great man". He thought very highly of my husband though they never knew one another prior to that work engagement. Our troops are there trying to help people get their lives back. I'm sure if we were in that situation we would want help as well. And no, war is not pretty and never will be. I think though at times it is simply a necessary evil in this world. Namaste-Anora
