It is now a general trend among all walks of life like professionals, service holders, business men and skilled or unskilled labours to migrate from rural to urban areas in search of better living standards or better opportunities. It is not only the scenario of India but everywhere throughout the world. A WHO report claims that virtually all population growth over the next thirty years will be in urban areas due to rapid urbanization and migration. Whether widespread urbanization is a boon or a bane is no doubt a controversial issue but what is your opinion?

I have been opting for a living in a familiar area - mylapore in chennai - because it is nearer to place of work to which i have to visit frequently. However widespread urbanization is good because people can have good living space at lesser cost an it gives employment opportunities for many in construction, shops and other services sector also.

hi DoctorDidi my opinion is that its both good and bad, as life generally is a mix of good ,bad and indifferent. Its hard on the small farmers but the younger generation will see what needs to be done to make a farm prosper now days and will implement the changes. Life' has never been static it keeps changing and we m ust adapt with its changes or be left behind. We cannot drive model t fords now or take cub planes, we have changed with the world. Not all changes are bad either.,look at the strides in medicine and how we live longer and often live healthier and older too. we have learned so much now and its improved the quality of our lives too. The bad side is that crime moves up with the changes but I am optimistic that this 2011 will be a much better year in all ways.

I live in an area that if we were to look backward 20 years, it was mostly a rural area. There was a small city in the heart of the county, but then again there was also as much farm land as their was developed area. This isn't the case at all anymore and I really tend to think that it is a curse. I think that packing a lot of people into a small area is not a good thing because it means that disease is able to be spread more rapidly.

It is a bane when there is no industry or work opportunity for those urbdan imigrants. In my country the trends is getting worse each day. People, educated professionals do not want to get back into the village to create work for others. The way forward to decrease the increase in urban migration in our country is to create jobs for ourselves and enjoy rural life. Business, small industry, ejobs or online work etc are some ways to go.

Change is the only thing that is constant and we must not be afraid of it. Places change as well as people whether it's for the good or bad, let it happen as it is cause we are all but participants in this play called life!
