Stairs, a simple and effective workout ?

Simple Workout - This can be done

Hi Friends, Have you ever thought about it, climbing stairs adds strength to leg muscles along with a cardiovascular workout at the same time. This can be done at home, in your office, apartment building, or on stair-climbing machines in the gym. Climbing two steps at a time is good for building the quadriceps (thigh muscles) and the gluteus (butt). Going down steps builds strength in the quadriceps and to a lesser extent, the hamstrings (leg muscles). The best part is that, one can do it without going to Gym or book time slot for exercise. I am going to follow this for sure. what do you think about it?

Yes, stairs are good as cardiovascular workout. You don't spend much , yet you get to exercise yourself. AT our office, which is inside the mall, i would always take the stairs until the second floor only, if i am in heels. But if i'm in my not so high heels, i would even use the comfort room at the 3rd floor, just so that i get to climb more stairs. A cheap way of exercise indeed!

I agree with your information shared that stair climbing is indeed beneficial. I got an office mate who does mountain climbing before and since there is obviously no mountain to climb in the city itself she resorted to doing an hour of climbing the 12 storey main building. I admire her dedication to spend an hour for the said exercise and she has also shared the same sentiments that you have previously mentioned her. For my part I do climb stairs but not to that extent.

I climb the stairs all the time to get my kids and me dressed and to put the clean laundry away... to clean upstairs and downstairs. I'm on the stairs a lot but its not really very much of a workout. So I decided to run up and down the stairs. I had read in a magazine how good it is for you and to do it for 2 minutes. Are you kidding me??? 2 minutes... lol no way I cant do it that long. I run up the stairs 7 times and down the stairs 7 times and then the top of my thighs feel like they are going to give out on me. I just did this about a half hour ago. I think I will go do it again while my kids arent here to get in the way.

It is a simple work out. It is also something people need to consider when they are at various shopping centers, their job ect to take the stairs instead of an elevator or escalator to their desired floor. Every lil bit helps as you get older and use your muscles less (usually to medical issues) you become weaker and can't do as much as you should.

You are certainly right. Using the staircase is definitely a great way to exercise the body and the great thing is you do not need to spend money in order to such exercise. Most often, as I do my work, I always make it a point to use the staircase whenever applicable. I take it as an opportunity to exercise. I only take the elevator whenever I am really in a hurry. At least by doing so, I get to move my muscles and increase circulation.

I actually had to learn to walk again after my car accident last year but I have found that climbing stairs while still hard is very beneficial. Sure it hurts and still feel like I'm going to scream but I know with that and the rowing I'm going to get in to I'm going to be more healthy. Take care all

A lot of people do this. You can actually buy like this little step thing and do this type of workout (at least sort of similar) in your own living room. When I go somewhere in town and there are stairs I will usually take them as opposed to the elevator. It burns lots more calories. However, I have to be careful with my knees as they are not in the best shape in the world!

I have a staircase and often when I'm bored I'll get my iPod out, and jog up and down the stairs until my legs are on fire while listening to Nine Inch Nails. By the time I'm done I can feel my calves and thighs pulsating in my legs. It feels awesome.

I think many people can get benefit from this habit. People hate climbing the stairs but you have focused the positive benefit of climbing the stairs on your own feet. I think it is possible to maintain this habit except some cases when you are in hurry or you are with a person who don't want to climb the stairs but all of you have to go together. I had friends who are more healthier than me because they use to climb the hill from the childhood to go to school and that adds to their muscle strength.
