I Have Heart Disease, Yet How Can I Stay on a Healthy Diet?

Two years ago, I ended up in the hopsital, for a quad heart bypass. I tried hard to listen to my doctor, to lessen my use of salt, to take my meds as ordered, exercise and to eat a healthy diet. I did well for awhile, then my bad cholestrol levels went up once more, plus my blood pressure readings also increased. My cardiologist prescribed another anti cholestrol med and also one for my blood pressure. So now I have to take two meds to decrease my cholestrol level. Well, in September I went in for a follow up and the meds worked! The problem is I have a cardiologist appointment on January 14, 2011. I haven't exercised like I should, but I am on my feet all day, doing blood draws, etc. I have had a big problem with the holidays and tons of junk food. Our break room is filled with candy, cookies, breads, doughnuts, etc from co-workers and patients. I have a stress test scheduled on the day of my cardiologist appointment. I'm worried that all my backsliding will show up when I go in for my tests and appointment. How do you do it? How do you avoid the junk foods? When do you find time to exercise? Also how can I enjoy food without salt? I really want to get back on track and start the New Year out right. I need suggestions to take the right steps to a healthy life style. One plus is I don't smoke or drink.

I have almost no good advice becasue I also struggle to eat right and excercise. I was given a gym membership from my sister and so I use it because otherwise I would be neglecting their gift. (it is a guilt thing that may help me loose weight) As far as junk food goes, I do not buy it at the store and so I have to make a special trip for junk. Usually I either forget about it just don't go because I do not want to waste the fuel. I use sea salt because it is just as flavorfull but without the side effects. I have decided though that the best thing to do is not make a resolution about it because you will not stick to it. Instead decide what one thing you are going to do and then do it. I decide before I go into a resturant that I will have a salad with the dressing on the side, or that I will go to the gym before I get home that night. Make one decision a day and stick with it.

Reminds me of my husbands favorite saying, take it: "One Day at a Time." He even has a sign above his desk with this saying on it. I do use sea salt, so maybe I am doing something right.
